I attended Central Market's Fat Tuesday Feast Demonstration at their Cooking School and it was a lot of fun. The cost of attending the class was $45 and that included generous samples of muffaletta, duck and crawfish jambalaya, catfish poboy, andouille grits and freshly made beignets served ala mode. That fluffy, light as air beignet was, so far, the best one I've had in Austin. Iced tea, water and 2 servings of wine (or beer) were also provided. It was a good class. I walked away full, learned lots about Mardi Gras recipes and had a great time with friends. I'm looking forward to attending another cooking demo.

Central Market is HEB's answer to the local giant Whole Foods and it's a winner! Central Market has anything you could need and much more including a world class butcher, an amazing bakery, live music, and a cooking school. Every couple of months they usually have a two week seasonal or international festival where they import a ton of gourmet products and fill their bakery and butcher sections with fantastic products to match the theme. An insiders tip go on the website before your visit and look at the weekly specials its a small list, but most of them are crazy discounted deals.

I love Central Market. I'm sure they paid someone big bucks to design the store and it pays off. The produce section makes me want to buy everything. Somehow, despite being a grocery store they manage to pull off a farmer's market feel in the produce department. They also have a large outdoor seating area and live music Thursday-Sunday. It's a great, cheap date activity.

The cafeteria at Central Market has great food and reasonable prices. It's a great place to sit on the deck, eat a good meal, and let the kids play on the big playscape. They often have live music in the evenings as well. The grocery store part is a very upscale version of H.E.B., carrying nicer products than the regular stores. Overall it's worth checking out.

Music throughout the week on the outdoor patio and movies during the summer make this place not your average grocery store. Shop inside for some salads and wine and have a picnic on their double decker patio. The bakery has a great selection of artisan breads. Prices are a bit high but sometimes you can find the same deals here as you would at HEB. Nice produce selection, there is a seafood and meat counter, sushi made fresh and to order, a cheese counter, deli counter and gelato. There is a cafe you can order sandwiches, salads and entrees from. Wine and beer tastings every now and then. This is apart of the HEB family.

Love shopping at Central Market. There's a selection of merchandise that's not available at my regular HEB. Cheese shop is awesome. Yes it's a little pricier than HEB and the parking situation is less than great but.....for me it's entertainment to walk thru the store and find new grocery items to try. If you visit on the right days there are lots of samples so that you can try before you buy. Check out the produce section to find unusual fruits and vegetables. Take home a prepared meal. Something for everyone.
