1916 Rising Remembered
Thank you very much to Tom O'Neill (manager of Spike Island), Paul and Eugene, for coming to the school today to speak to the children about the 1916 Rising. Tom put together a fantastic display of memorabilia from the event which was on display in the hall.  Paul and Eugene also dressed for the occasion.

Interschool’s Hockey report by Aaron Brodkorb

On Saturday March 5th 2016, the interschool’s hockey blitz took place in Garryduff. The school had picked eight members to play on their senior team. These eight included Richard Daly, Gaby Olden, Maeve O’ Connor, Paul Curtin, Ben & David Ryan, and the co captains, Aaron Brodkorb and Duncan Walsh.
Once we got there, we did our warm up and Duncan and I were voted captains. Our first match was against Rockboro, who had done well in the previous years. But this time their senior team was not very strong and we beat them 6-0. We won our next 2 matches and were up against St. Lukes. They were a strong opposition but we managed to beat them 2-0. After winning our last 4 matches we were told we were in the semi-final. We won and made it into the final where we had to face St. Lukes again. Once the end horn blew the crowd went wild. 5-0 was the final score. Another victory for St. John the Baptist N.S. which will be engraved on the cup that I will bring into school on Monday. The junior team also came second overall. Afterwards we all went to KFC. I think everyone had a great day and I also want to thank the parents who came to cheer us on, the other schools and participants and most of all the coaches who came and devoted their time to help us. Without these, the hockey blitz would not have been possible.

As part of Aistear and SESE last month Senior Infants have been learning about people in our local community who help us.

A big thank you to Jackie who talked about road safety, Peter from Ballycotton RNLI, Garda Fiona Sandes and Tim Mahony who talked about being a fireman.

We really enjoyed your visits.
