In this practical, actionable talk from veteran digital marketer Christopher S. Penn, you’ll learn the READ framework for finding influencers, assessing their potential, and performing outreach in traditional and social media.

You’ll be able to do effective outreach at local, state, regional, and even national levels, ensuring that your message reaches the right audiences at the right times in the places where they consume the most media.

Christopher Penn (@cspenn): VP Marketing Technology @shiftcomm, ninja, PodCamp cofounder, Marketing Over Coffee cohost, speaker, author, Google certified pro.

For the curious, the Computer History Museum 2014 Core magazine has an article on punchcard demonstrations via their live IBM 1401 museum demo stop.

Sugar Labels, Will They Help Reduce Consumption? - M&M wants labels for added sugar.

Article: http://agtoday.us/1H6NvKL

"Mars Inc., maker of M&M’s and Snickers, is throwing its support behind a proposal by U.S. regulators to include measurements of added sugar in the mandated Nutrition Facts labels for food, a move that bucks broad opposition to the proposal by big food companies."

There is a whole new brand swag extension being missed by the NFL. "Meerkat Moments", "Up Periscope, the behind the scenes at the Game", and cardboard periscopes branded for each team, moment, or event.

So can I paint my @JohnDeere pink? - Licenses can control how equipment can / can't be used.

Tractors Are More Software Than Iron - Farmers don't own their tractors, says @JohnDeere

Link: http://agtoday.us/1btUaBr

"_In a particularly spectacular display of corporate delusion, John Deere—the world’s largest agricultural machinery maker —told the Copyright Office that farmers don’t own their tractors. Because computer code snakes through the DNA of modern tractors, farmers receive “an implied license for the life of the vehicle to operate the vehicle.”"_

And

"The notion of actually owning the things you buy has become revolutionary."

More things are software driven, including agriculture. Driving a tractor today involves software controlling the actual driving with an operator mainly providing guidance and strategic thinking.

With software comes the trend of licensing it to people to use. A license is not ownership and thus sets up (in farming at least) a conflict that goes against thousands of years of agriculture: a farmer buys their equipment and can do with it what they please.

Take away: Maybe the notion of physical ownership is fading away slowly. And that new business models of agriculture are about leveraging technology to get things done. But for that to happen, the notion of buying a tractor from a dealer only to be told that you actually may not own it is going to cause conflict until the business value for farmers can be increased.
