Not sure how this works? Does the volume indicate quality? Is it supposed to always be equilateral?
True though, except the scope always increases, the time overruns and the cost increases exponentially, in the software industry its the equivalent of being asked for a building by next Tuesday and learning Monday they meant Buckingham Palace, not the garden shed you delivered and they agreed to.
Get the plans on paper, get the signature then quote the time.
In my experience though the shining stars are the people that underquote the time then manage the flak and overruns as they come. The quote of 2 weeks sticks in the mind more than the quote of 4 weeks even if it takes 6 weeks to do.
Forget Hofstadters law, tell em it will take 10 minutes and bask in the glory.
