Mountain Sports Flagstaff cares about Arizona’s air quality. Unfortunately, monitoring has shown that toxic emissions from two Utah coal-fired power plants is drifting into Arizona and threatening our families, and the businesses that depend on Arizona’s outdoor-recreation economy. Please join us by adding your Arizona business name to this letter, which asks the EPA to protect our health and livelihoods from dangerous Utah air pollution. Stop by Mountain Sports Flagstaff to “Voice Your Choice” daily between April 15 and April 30, 2015. Cast a vote for your favorite local participating One Percent for the Planet organization and help them earn a $5,000 grant. Participating organizations include:

Diablo Trust
Flagstaff Biking Organization
Flagstaff Film Festival
Friends of Camp Colton
Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery
Grand Canyon Youth
Terra BIRDS
Willow Bend Environmental Education Center

We have proudly sold Patagonia products for many years, and through this alignment have become members of 1% for the Planet. As a business member, we commit 1% of customer purchases to help fund local environmental and conservation projects. We have granted over $110,000 dollars to the local community thus far. By choosing to shop at Mountain Sports Flagstaff our customers are not only investing in quality products, but they are also giving back to our local community in a significant way.

In our efforts to diversify this annual giving, we are continuing a concept of granting called “Voice Your Choice.” We’ve invited all of the 1% for the Planet approved organizations in the Flagstaff area to compete for this $5,000 grant. Our customers now have the opportunity to voice THEIR choice and choose where their purchase dollars are donated by coming in and casting a ballot for their favorite organization.

From April 15th thru April 30th we invite everyone to stop into Mountain Sports Flagstaff and “Voice Your Choice.” Come in to the store daily and cast your ballot (One vote per customer, per day. No purchase is necessary). The organization with the most votes will earn the $5,000 grant.

In recognition of National Independents Week, Local First Arizona will honor locally owned and independent businesses in Flagstaff and across the state from Sunday, June 29, through Sunday, July 6. The nationwide Independents Week campaign, coordinated by the American Independent Business Alliance and also known as “Indie Week,” takes place during the week of Independence Day with the purpose of enlightening consumers to the importance of supporting local businesses.
To celebrate Independents Week, Local First Arizona and Criollo Latin Kitchen will host a Fourth of July Celebration and block party on Friday, July 4, during Flagstaff's First Friday Art Walk. Criollo will be offering great deals on drinks and tacos from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for happy hour in the alley next to Criollo Latin Kitchen at 16 N. San Francisco St. Local First Arizona will be joining the fun from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., when there will be live local music, a cash bar with delicious summer drinks and street tacos. The event is free to attend and open to all ages. Attendees can talk to Local First Arizona representatives about Independents Week, Localist events and upcoming local business happenings in Flagstaff.
“Our Fourth of July Celebration will be a great opportunity for Arizonans to have some fun and get to know the local businesses in their neighborhood,” said Meg Williams Jamison, Northern Arizona Director for Local First Arizona. “Our mission with Independents Week is to celebrate everything that Arizona’s local businesses contribute to the community, as up to four times more money stays in the local community when you support local businesses rather than national chains.”
Independents Week also means the return of the popular Golden Coupon, the ticket to saving 20% off purchases from hundreds of locally owned establishments including auto repairs, home furnishing stores, boutiques, florists, restaurants, yoga studios, nurseries, and more (a list of participating businesses will be available at http://localfirstaz.com/independents-week/ in early June). Individuals can get their Golden Coupon by visiting http://localfirstaz.com/independents-week/ and either printing the coupon out or downloading the coupon to their smart phone.
Details for this event and Independents Week are available at http://localfirstaz.com/independents-week/.
