Because illustration features so heavily in what I write about on the blog, I've been
thinking about the possibility of hosting a Big Draw event (http://www.campaignfordrawing.org/bigdraw/
) on my blog but I'd like to chat about the idea with some friendly faces to firm up
ideas and explore options etc to see if this is something feasible for me.
My rough idea at the moment would be to host an online competition for
grownups and their kids to draw together to illustrate a scene from their
favourite unillustrated book.
Generations would submit a drawing and then I
would ask some of the illustrators I have links with to "judge
I'd try to get an art material company to donate some materials as a prize (or
perhaps sketches from judging illustrators as prizes).
What pitfalls do people foresee? What issues might arise? What do you think I should think about in hosting such a competition? What would make you participate in such a competition?
I'd like the event to encourage adults as well as children to draw. Do you think it would be better if adult/kid pairs did one drawing together, or two drawings separately?
If I created an online gallery eg using Flickr, what advice to you have for setting up one?
What restrictions should I place on the artwork submitted eg format, materials, size etc
Any suggestions for sponsor companies?
I'd really appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, warnings you have - if I do this, I want it to work well!
Looking forward to hearing your ideas :-)
