MarvelRPG and Heroic  -

Two sessions into Emerald City Knights for MHR, and things are shaping up very nicely. Captain Relativity has become the de facto team leader, while Patrick "the Spider" Anderson is their face man. Princess Shar of Gol'Atha has picked up a cosmetics contract, Dino-Wizard is doing local talk shows, and Whett Knife is hoping to parlay his fame as a superhero into a return to the spotlight as a musician. Zipline is having too much trouble balancing his superheroics with his school life to even worry about fame. There are even session reports and everything!
Welcome to the City of Destiny! Emerald City has many nicknames, but you might know it best as “home.” The world is a place of heroes and villains, but Emerald City has seemingly lacked both for most of its storied history. While Freedom City on the east coast is teeming with costumed characters, Emerald City has been bereft of them. The city simply hasn’t seemed to need heroes before. That is changing. A recent upswing in unexplained events, cri...

Just started a new MHR game this week, set in the Emerald City campaign setting. The heroes are all pretty great. We have a former MMA fighter called "the Spider," a glam rocker/mad scientist named Whett Knife blessed with the power of ROCK, an alien warrior noble called Princess Shar who is basically Superman but with a pink sailor fuku, a college kid with a prototype grappling gun calling himself Zipline who is TOTALLY NOT ACTUALLY AN ANDROID, an astronaut from an alternate reality named Captain Relativity (because generals are always bad guys), and a dinosaur wizard from an ancient magical dinosaur civilization called... DINO-WIZARD!

It's shaping up to be a great game. =3

Started character creation on a new MHR game tonight. I couldn't stop laughing at one of the player's concepts: DinoWizard, a temporally-displaced raptor from a timeline where dinosaurs never died out and built a magically advanced civilization. Seriously, I couldn't breathe.

I've done a similar concept, but named the character Tyrannosaurus Hex.

My group's been making characters for my upcoming DX campaign. Looking like a pretty good group so far. We have a Purebreed Exile whose arms turn into horrific barbed tentacles when she fights, a Purebreed Orcus who turns his domain into a horrific Lovecraftian nightmare when he uses his powers, a Crossbreed Black Dog/Hanuman whose powers are all dubstep music cranked up to 11, and a Purebreed Balor who claims to be from the future. The last couple of players haven't made their characters yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. ^_^

Also, that quote by Nietzsche comes to mind, something about monsters, metamorphosis, and the deepest parts of the ocean suddenly gaining eyes.

...Nietzsche was nutsy.

Time for a question with no right answer! In your game, what Syndrome or Syndromes did Professor Caudwell possess?

In the books, in his guise as Iscariot, Caudwell's Syndrome is always listed as "???". This seems to be intentional so that individual GMs can do whatever they need to do with him. Still, for members of the UGN, Professor Caudwell's Syndrome would probably be a matter of record. I've already had a player ask me about it, in fact.

Personally, I started off thinking that he might be a Neumann because of his mental capabilities, but he was also a very charismatic leader, so Solaris would be appropriate too. For my game, I'm thinking that he was a Neumann/Solaris Crossbreed.

So what Syndrome do you think the good professor should have?

I always figured Johan and Simon actually were his children since they look so much like him.

I can only believe that Shunsaku Yano has a serious mad-on for Bram Stokers. Every other Syndrome gets six new powers in Infinity Code, while Bram Stokers get more than 20. I know that some of those are Servant powers, but still. The game's been so careful about keeping the number of powers fairly close together between Syndromes so far, so the enormous disparity seems off.

Also, did Ouroboros seriously not get any Enemy Powers? Weird.

Still enjoying Infinity Code, but those are my big concerns about it as a supplement so far.

I have to agree, Bram Stokers need the boost.

Sadly, the new powers don't really fix this. They're still mostly stuff that other syndromes have, only worse and costing you hp. More Servant powers doesn't really fix the problem of needing way too many powers for it to work either.

Re: Heretical King (Infinity Code, page 9). A +50 Attack Power bonus at minimum? Are you effing serious? O_O

If anyone's interested, I just started a discussion thread about Double Cross over on rpg.net. It's a rumors game, where you make up things people in the world of DX might hear as rumors on the street. Check it out if that's your sort of thing.

Infinity Code errata question: Should Inorganic Limbs (page 18) be Attack Power +[Level + 4] rather than just Attack Power +4? I ask because otherwise having a Max Level of 10 is pointless.

That is correct. Thank you for catching that.
