+NIA Ops, Ready for #PortalAppealReview 16 to 0.

Type of Appeal: Rejected New Submission ("Duplicate")

Portal Title: St. Francis of Assisi Church
Location: Approx 40.536120, -79.841663

Special nod candidate: Place of Worship

This is not the same as 'St. Pio Parish' portal which is the sign for the Saint Pio of Pietrelcina Parish (comprised of this church and St. Edward's in Blawnox) sign located at the corner of the lot. This is the actual church that is on the grounds here.

The nearest portal (a Saint Francis birdbath, also approved last night) is about 24m away, which is plenty of room, based on a few recent acceptances around the region. I am sure something could be done with positioning to make this 'safe to hack'. :)

Thanks!

I've seen quite a few duplicates come online lately - including blatant duplication not just signage. It is weird.

Type of Appeal: Rejected New Submission ("Does not meet criteria")

Portal Title: Candy Corner
Location: 107 US-33
Ripley, WV (Approx 38.818891, -81.710712)

Here is a streeview at which you can see the plaque: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.818823,-81.710563,3a,75y,319.58h,77.98t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sE3oxsa3314Ll5fGQFUC-CQ!2e0(if you move onto the street, you'll get older streetview images  from a time when the plaque was not present)

This is a historical marker that locates the original location of the Bank of Ripley, which was built 1890-1891 by Enoch Staats, Sr., who was a prominent member of Ripley and all of Jackson County.

The building it stands on is a commercial building, which I believe is currently unoccupied.  Candy Corner is the name given to this particular street corner, Church St. and Main St. (various historical photos can be found online that name it such, ie: http://www.cityofripley.org/images/history/ripley%20candy%20corner.JPG)

MY one cat gladly accepts Kali Ma from trusted souls. Another cat of mine appears to want this, but it is a trap!  What is up with hyperspace?

General Discussion  -

So I have had a total of 67 portals go live.

Of those, 2 of them I didn't receive credit for within the "Portals Discovered" stat.

One of them was rejected on appeal, but went live anyway, with only my picture, and I was automagically given a key.  Okay, weird, but I was happy the portal went live so I didn't worry about it.

The other was submitted in January, and so wouldn't count for seer.

Yesterday at some point, my Portals Discovered count increased by 2.  There were no new portal acceptance emails, and if I looked at me "Week" tab, the portals discovered the past week was a resounding '0.'

I find this interesting, but don't know if I should read anything into it.

Type of Appeal: Rejected New Submission

Portal Title: Robert Armstrong Memorial Bench
Location: Approx 40.497987, -79.881990

Robert Armstrong was the chairman of the O'Hara Parks and Recreation Commission for 25 years (Squaw Valley Park, in which this bench is located, is in O'Hara Township). He also made the Squaw Valley Park signs.

He was also a prominent member of society in the area.  His obituary covers all that way better than I could: http://old.post-gazette.com/obituaries/20020921armstrong0921p2.asp

Here's another shot of the bench in context, since it is under a tree in the satellite view on google maps: http://offsite.baldninja.com/rarmstrongbench.jpg

Type of Appeal: Rejected New Submission ("Does not meet criteria")

Portal Title: Independent Order of Odd Fellows
(Click Picture to see full image)
Location: 108 North St W, Ripley, WV (Approx 38.819827,-81.711208)

Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a social society founded in 1819; it has many lodges around the world.  Belief in a supreme being/creator is also  part of their guidelines, along with service to the community and those in heed.  It is thus a community gathering place, with religious connotations, and a role of service to the community.

Sorry, I don't have the high-res original submission picture. This is a lower-res version extracted from the confirmation email.

http://www.ioof.org/ is their website.
