Basic Information
Mundy's was recommended to me by an old friend who has had quite a bit of work done there over the years. I needed a small 6" tubular bar fabricated, bent and welded onto the rear of the luggage rack of my classic '88 BMW sidecar rig. I rode my rig to the shop and asked the guys for an estimate. They said, "Oh, about $20 plus materials", which I thought was fair, so I made an appointment to bring it in first thing Tuesday morning, the 6th of May. They called me about 10:30 and said it was ready to pick up so I had my wife drive me down with my riding jacket and helmet to get it. I went inside to settle up and the guy said, "That will be $40." "Whoa", I replied, "Last week when I was here and got the estimate you said $20 plus materials!" "Yeah", he replied, "but we had to unbolt the rack to do the welding and then bolt it back on the sidecar, and that took extra time for labor." "I got the estimate with the rack on the sidecar. You never said you wanted the rack off to work on it. If I had known you wanted it off to do the work I could have taken the rack off at home and just brought that down to you rather than ride down here on the rig early on a cold morning." He pared the bill down from $46 to $38. Not much of a concession. They didn't even paint the part black to match the rest of the bike, a 3 minute job. These guys are not honest and I will never take any work to them again.
