Tonight's hot video. I've seen this shared by several people over the past couple of days, but I love this one for a few reasons.

First, the cameras are made by GoPro, which is 200 yards from my house. Half Moon Bay tech companies rock. Here's my video with the CEO of GoPro: http://scobleizer.com/2011/04/03/first-video-look-awesome-new-3d-gopro-camera-system/

But second, I love videos of people who do this new batsuit base jumping stuff. They are willing to take a lot of risks just to get us a cool video to watch. I'm not willing to do that.

Anyway, enjoy this video and if you've seen it already, watch it again. It's cool.

Am I clueless or G+ on a feature that removes showing names of people who share posts? Annoying!

Food for thought. I always think people make extreme comments to make a point. This indeed is true here, but truly there are side effects to making things relevant. By definition, relevance is personalized...

What Google and Facebook are hiding -- TED Talk. Back in July I wrote a piece about algorithms used in the stream on Facebook and Google (http://bit.ly/pBZo5Y). I argued that algorithmic sorting of feeds is OK, but it's important to let users see all the information if the want to, because computers won't always get it right. Here's an interesting TED talk that suggests there's a political reason to be wary of algorithms as well -- +Eli Pariser argues that algorithms could tends towards reinforcing one's world view, and discounting alternate opinions. Note: he's not just talking about "feeds" but all sorts of web projects that tend to "customize" the web for us. Definitely worth thinking about.

At this point, a G+ classic. I tend to use Circles more for who I want to read at a given moment, rather than for who I want to post to. But in part, that's because I can't look at my own profile or stream using circles. If I have a bunch of private conversations going on with limited circles, I don't like the way my profile looks and it's hard to get back to certain posts. I'm hoping for some better tools to organize things. Without them, I'll probably never use G+ much for private communcation.
