Roborama 2012a will be run entirely indoors. There will be an indoor version of RoboColumbus.
The event will begin at noon on Saturday May 12 at <TBD location/address>.
Summary of Changes for Roborama 2012a
The following significant rules changes from Roborama 2011b are made. See the complete rules below for details.
RoboColumbus will be held inside, with as long a course as we can make. Contestants may substitute their own target for the supplied 18” cone, as long as it is approximately the same size. Robots MUST stop at the cone, or close to it. The criteria used to determine contest results is the distance between the closest part of the autonomously stopped robot and the cone. Robots which don’t stop will be disqualified.
3-PI robots are allowed to compete in the advanced class.
Robots must navigate around a 6’ square course instead of the 8’ square course used in past competitions. This change is to facilitate conducting the contest on two courses simultaneously.
The block will be placed by the judge in the middle third (both length and width) of the table. It will be in the same location for all contestants.
There will not be a separate “Vex Open” like Roborama 2012a. Instead, there will be a prize for “Best use of Vex gear in a Robot”. It will be awarded after all contests are done. All robots which compete and contain Vex gear will be eligible.
Only 2 months to go. Start tuning those robots.
The Dallas Personal Robotics Group (DPRG), founded in June of 1984, is one of the nation’s oldest special interest groups dedicated to the development and use of personal robotics. The DPRG is a 501(c)(3) not for profit educational organization. DPRG members are interested in autonomous robots, movie replica robots, vintage robots, robot and kinetic art, as well as just about anything involving electronics, technology, or science.
