Just another way the system kicks people while they are already down.

A 20 minute visit to the ER for back pain and the patient walks away with muscle relaxers and a $2400 bill.

We all know hospital visits are not cheap. Sadly it seems the norm for these facilities to charge based more on what they can get away with than what is fair. The only person that suffers from this is the patient.

Perhaps even more disturbing in this instance is the level of care received.
At Brain and Body Chiropractic a similar patient would receive a 60min evaluation for a tiny fraction of that cost. You would also receive treatments focused on correcting the issue causing your pain. This is vastly different than being given a bottle of pills to hide your symptoms until the problem returns stronger later on. Do the right thing... your body will thank you later... and in most cases so will your pocket book.

We hope all of you were able to catchup on your sleep this weekend! However we want to make sure you're doing it right! Some of the worst neck cases I've worked on were brought on by sleeping wrong with the neck in a strained position. Here is a handy chart for how you should and should not sleep.

Extra Tip: Dump your big bulky pillow. Your pillow should support your neck but not completely prop your head up. This is another recipe for disaster.

Ah the Monday after Thanksgiving... for many of us this day is filled with satisfaction from all the great food we had over the weekend along with regret about how much of that great food we ate. For most of us this is the beginning of the "hard" time of year where Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years result in a full on month of overeating and weight gain. Here is an article about research done on the lasting affects of short term overeating. Its not pretty. Use this information to keep yourself healthy this season and save yourself potentially long term negative affects. Im not saying not to eat Grandmas famous apple pie. Just fight the urge to eat 4 pieces of it... Your body will thank you.

How many of you ladies out there can relate to this conversation??? 🤣
Message to you guys:
There's a difference between being tough and being stubborn. Your back pain will not respond very well to your stubbornness. Even if your pain eventually goes away you still have residual injuries hiding out that will continue to come back and bite you. Don't be stubborn. Be smart. Stay ahead of the game and keep your spine functioning at its best for as long as possible. Stop being the guy with the chronic bad back.

Your brain benefits from exercise because your brain benefits from MOVEMENT. Every joint in your body is jam packed with nerves that send signals to your brain regarding movements that joint is doing. This helps keep the brain active and strong. The joints in your body that are responsible for sending the most signals to your brain are those in the SPINE. When you have spinal joints that aren't moving or not moving correctly your brain does not benefit as much from that segment. You leave that segment alone for many years and you start to develop even more problems. This is why many people continue getting checkups throughout their lifetime. You wouldn't leave a cavity to grow bigger on your tooth. So you shouldn't ignore an improperly moving spinal segment either.

Need an extra incentive to lose some weight? This study found that losing 1 pound of fat can decrease the weight on each knee by about 4 pounds per step when walking. That is huge! Our weight can play a large role in the abuse our joints undergo. This can directly affect the speed and severity that we develop arthritis as we age. Decrease the weight on those knees now and they will thank you later!
