The Essence of the Equinox: Love and Balance
Business and Astrological Insights by Beth McDonald Consulting

The people of the ancient world divided the year into four quarters: the solstices of the summer and winter, and the equinoxes of the spring and fall. Each of these four markers have their significance, in both the material and spiritual realms. As we celebrate the spring equinox tonight, stay open to the ways these significances appear to and for you, and follow where they take you. Pay particular attention to insights they give you into love and balance.

The spring equinox marks the official end of the Western Astrological year. The Sun moves from Pisces, the 12th sign of the Zodiac, into Aries, the first. So there are ways that the spring equinox marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

The equinoxes are also the two times a year when the days and nights are of equal length. A literal moment of balance. That part is obvious. What may not be so obvious are the ways that literal balance appears in your material and spiritual life. Or needs to. Though this year, with the spring equinox falling between two eclipses, the things that are in balance and the things that are not but need to be will be a lot more obvious. Sometimes painfully so.

If you need help navigating your eclipses and the spring equinox, call me. We'll figure it out.

The Aquarian Ideal

Astrological Insights by Beth McDonald Consulting

The eleventh sign of the Western Zodiac, Aquarius derives its name from the Latin Aquarii, meaning "The Water Bearer." Because of that, people often mistakenly conclude Aquarius is a water sign. But it is not. Aquarius is an air sign.

Water signs rule the more fluid realms of emotion and intuition - things that need a container. Air signs rule the mind, and your mental processes, the things that contain emotion and intuition. Hence Aquarius is the intellectual processes and capacities that bear, carry and contain the emotional and intuitive ones.  Both, in balance, are necessary for humans to be happy and live in harmony with each other.

If you are having trouble finding your Aquarian ideal, and the balance that comes with it, call me. We'll figure it out. For more information about how I can help you, please visit my website at www.santabarbaraastrologer.com

Post-Mercury Retrograde Protocols:
Assessment and Repair

Astrological Insights by Beth McDonald Consulting

For some, the last waning days of the Mercury Retrograde have been brutal ones. As is usual during the retrogrades find myself saying a lot of the same things over and over, so I thought I would post the condensed version.

The best thing about the retrogrades of Mercury is they show you the where your path is going, and where you are preventing yourself from going there. So it is always a good time to slow down, pay attention and let Mercury be Mercury. Resistance is, after all, futile. Unleash your inner Buddhist, and try to try to try to remind yourself your universe is actually helping you create a more sustainable infrastructure.

And sometimes that requires quite an overhaul. Especially when almost the entire retrograde happened in Capricorn, ruler of foundations and construction, repairs and infrastructure. So if you are finding yourself dominated by yours, you are right on track. If you need some help with it, call me. We'll figure it out.

Welcome Aquarius, Gateway to Peak Performance

Astrological Insights by Beth McDonald Consulting

The perfect sentiment for the new year - and especially today as the Sun rolls into Aquarius, the ruler of the future, of forward-thinking, and of peak performance. The key component is being engaged and present. Love you, Becky Meyer Snedecker, for calling this little gem to my attention (and for many other things!).

Capable Capricorn, Or How I Learned to Love Infrastructure

Business and Astrological Insights by Beth McDonald Consulting

As an astrologer and business consultant, I am pretty much a glorified fixer. I spend a lot of time doing the tough stuff, the sad stuff. Damage control and crisis management, triage and the proverbial clean up on isle three. All the stuff that happens as a result of some sort of epic infrastructure fail.

And I have come to the conclusion that the best solution is to develop a love affair with Capricorn. Actually, not an affair - a serious, committed, long-term relationship. And here is why.

Capricorn does not fail. He is ambitious, driven, and clear. Capricorn is the one voted most likely to succeed. He rules order, structure, discipline, form, and all the things that make that possible: watches and calendars, databases and filing systems: infrastructure.

While on the surface it may not sexy or fun, infrastructure is the stuff that keeps the tough stuff, the sad stuff, the bad stuff at bay. Which then makes it really sexy and fun. So with all the Capricorn in the air these days, the best use of your time and money is to review and repair, finish and fine tune your infrastructure. And if you get stuck, call me. We'll figure it out.

What to do When Death Doesn't Take a Holiday

Astrological and Death Midwifery Insights
By
Beth McDonald Consulting

For death midwives, some of the most rewarding work you can do comes during the holiday season. The transformative power of the death window is greater, and the hearts and minds of clients are more open to it. The most important thing for all to remember is to be flexible. Let go of the need to observe all your holiday traditions in the way you have always done. And be open to the probability that, if you do, something even richer and more sacred will occur.

I had the privilege and pleasure of being interviewed yesterday by Janis Underwood, an intuitive, energetic healer, death educator and midwife from Austin, Texas. Janis is an extraordinarily talented woman, and we had a lot of fun discussing this and other topics. Am quite sure more is to come. Please check it out, and forward it to people who are helping beloved friends and family make the death transition during this holiday season. Love, thanks and blessings, to you, Janis!

On Rising Above:
Asking the Hard Questions and Changing What We Can

Astrological and Governance Insights  by Beth McDonald Consulting

The conjunction of Mars and the North Node, like we have had for the last three weeks, is known for sudden outbursts of anger, irrationality and violence. The Santa Barbara Community is not only grieving the tragedies in Lebanon and France, we have also been rocked in recent weeks by a number of tragic and ultimately preventable murders, suicides and drug overdoses.

There is always plenty of blame to go around. But pointing fingers doesn't solve the problem. Calm, rational inquiry is a better starting point. Responsibility and accountability come next. Making what changes we can, even if they are baby steps, are essential.

I am awestruck and grateful for the way our community is working together to make sure we understand just how these events keep occurring, and to make sure they don't happen as often as they do.

Welcoming the Mercury Retrograde with Libra's Love
Astrological and Business Insights by Beth McDonald Consulting

I can always tell what sign Mercury is about to retrograde in by who calls the week before. In this case, it is Libra: Suns and Moons, stelliums and risings. At 11:09 pacific time today, September 17th, Mercury goes retrograde at 15 degrees Libra. Mercury goes direct on Friday, October 9th, at 7:57 am, at 00 degrees Libra.

As usual, this is about a three-week gig. And all the normal recommendations apply: back up all your phones and computers; say please and thank you, budget extra time and money for travel and projects, be redundantly clear in your communications, look both ways before crossing the street, and signal before changing lanes.Oh, and because Libra is ruled by Venus - the Goddess of Love, be exceptionally kind.

And if you get stuck, call me.
We'll figure it out.

Venus Retrograde Ends:
How Her Grace Reveals Yours

Venus is the Goddess of the divine feminine archetype, and all things associated with the best parts of Yin energy: beauty, harmony, balance, love and caring. But Venus is a lot more than that, and when she goes direct after a long retrograde, as she did about 1:29 Sunday morning, we get a crash course in all the different aspects of her domain.

While it is a big one, and there are a lot angles to it, the thing I am seeing people wrangling with the most is that of their values. Venus rules your values - especially around what is most precious to you. When Venus is retrograde, she tends to hold up a mirror and show us where what we say we value is a little out of alignment with our choices, our thoughts and our behavior.

When Venus goes direct, we are left with the actual re-alignment process. Which is sometimes quite a deal, and requires lots of objectivity, strength, and discernment. Sometimes you need to accept that your actual values are not as noble as you once thought. Sometimes you need to accept that your values are solid, but your ways of expressing them are in need of an upgrade. Regardless, if there is a lot going on in your head right now, you are right on schedule.

Be brutally honest with yourself - after all, this is the harvest season. Everything you are experiencing now, everything you reaping is something you planted long ago. Be patient and present with yourself and others, and if you get stuck, call me. We'll figure it out.
