SWEET MARCELO IS MEGA URGENT!!!! PLEASE SHARE FOR A FOSTER, ADOPTER.

SUPER SUPER URGENT MARCEL0. FOUND WANDERING, ADOPTED, RETURNED, WHY CAN'T MARCELO*SEE PROFILE), GET AN EVEN BREAK. PEOPLE HAVE GOT TO EDUCATE THEMSELVES BEFORE, REPEAT, BEFORE, BRINGING A NEW PET INTO THEIR HOMES. ESPECIALLY SO, WITH A SHELTER PET. THESE DOGS (AND CATS) HAVE BEEN ABANDONED, LOST EVERYTHING THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH AND LOVED, THROWN INTO A SMALL KENNEL, WHERE THEY EAT, SLEEP, AND PEE AND POO. IF THEY ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES, AND IF THERE ARE A LOT OF VOLUNTEERS, THEY MIGHT GET TO GO OUTSIDE FOR POTTYING THAT DAY AND A BIT OF EXERCISE. SO FOR ANY RIGHT THINKING ADULT, TO BRING A SHELTER DOG HOME AND EXPECT IT TO GET ALONG PERFECTLY WITH RESIDENT PETS AND TO EXHIBIT PERFECT MANNERS, FORGET IT. TOO OFTEN, NOT KIDDING, AN ADOPTER WILL RETURN A PET, BECAUSE THE PET WASN'T "THANKFUL". IF THAT IS YOUR REASONING, IT IS BEST TO NOT BRING A NEW PET HOME. THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH "HELL" AND THEY NEED TIME, SOMETIMES A LOT OF TIME, AND SOME THINGS THEY NEVER GET OVER.(FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE HERE)

Manhattan Center

My name is MARCELO. My Animal ID # is A1045226.
I am a male brown and white american staff and boxer mix. The shelter thinks I am about 7 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/24/2015 from NY 10460, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT

07/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/24/15 11:51 Marcelo A1045226 appears to be a middle aged Am Staff/Boxer mix male whom was found wandering the streets in the Bronx following a woman and her dog when the finder stopped Marcello and brought him into our BXAC. The finder stated the woman was afraid of Marcelo. The finder also stated Marcelo wasn’t menacing in any way he was just walking, they aren’t able to keep Marcelo. Marcelo was friendly but strong. During intake Marcelo’s attention was focused on an older small dog we had in our lobby, he was barking and attempting to go towards the dog. Once the dog was placed in a kennel Marcelo kept staring in the direction the dog was taken. Marcelo allowed to be scanned (-), collared and taken pictures of, he walked right into the kennel when asked to.

07/31/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Did someone call for a detective? Never fear, Marcelo and his superior nose are already on the case, the ground, the bench and anywhere else exciting scents abound! Already a fair way into his career as a pet, like a fine wine Marcelo has matured into a robust yet mellow boy with a friendly nature and plenty of independent opinions about just how long one should spend sniffing each and every tree on the block. Hint: it’s a lot longer than you think! Marcelo does pull a bit on leash but he seems to be extremely house trained and has already done well his behavior evaluation with near perfect scores on everything from handling to resource sharing to canine socialization. In playgroup he enjoys the company of other dogs and will briefly engage in play, though his main focus as always is on exploring his surroundings, and when we pass fellow pups in the street he politely acknowledges them with a glance before getting right back to his investigations. Boxers have been described as the George Clooney of the dog world, ‘a hunk with a sense of humor and an underlying sweetness’ and this handsome Boxer-mix boy is no exception. Equal parts adventurous and mellow, Marcelo is looking for a partner as loyal and steadfast as he is… could it be you?

07/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Marcelo is a bit aloof when entering the assessment but will approach the assessor when called with a relaxed body and low wag. He remained calm and relaxed during handling but was easily distracted and focused on stimuli in the room other than the assessor. He was distracted and focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag interaction. Marcelo had no interest in food and minimal interest in toys and rawhide. Marcelo was brought to the care center as a stray; his finder stated that Marcelo was friendly but strong. Throughout the assessment, Marcelo was easily distracted but allowed all handling to be conducted with a relaxed body posture. The Behavior Department feels Marcelo can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is body is relaxed, ears and tail neutral, mouth closed. The dog is not focused and is in constant movement, unconnected to the Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: No interest Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Rawhide1: Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Marcelo is initially a bit unsure but will eventually engage in brief bouts of play. He is more interested in exploring his surroundings.

07/26/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Marcelo is initially a bit unsure but will eventually engage in brief bouts of play. He is more interested in exploring his surroundings. 7/30 update: Marcelo greets politely, and is interested in interacting. He becomes slightly anxious after a period of time, and begins to whine. 7/31 update: Marcelo continues to show interest in interacting with other dogs, but does not fully engage in play. He responds well to correction. 8/1 update: Marcelo is sexually motivated, and takes correction for attempting to mount.

07/26/2015 INITIAL PHYSICAL EXAM

Medical Behavior Evaluation No Initial Behavior
Medical Summary No Initial Exam

A volunteer writes: When I first met Marcela she was very shy and timid, but she has since come out of her shell. She is a skinny little lady with the kindest eyes. She seems to have housetraining and walks nicely on leash, but often mistakes the sidewalk for a buffet! She is very treat motivated and while she could work on taking them with less enthusiasm, in every other way Marcela is very gentle. She often looks up to check in and is very quietly affectionate. When I sit down on a stoop it’s not long before Marcela has her whole body draped over my knees! She calmly laid there, soaking up the sights, sounds and lots and lots of pets, scratches, and compliments! She is not particularly demanding of affection, but seems so grateful to receive it. Whenever I put her back in her cage she curls back up on her bed and I assure her that soon someone will see what a wonderful, loving girl she is! Could you and Marcela be a match? Please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC!

Marcelo is a 1 year old brown and white male pitbull who arrived as a stray surrender.  Upon intake Marcelo was not handled by counselor.  Counselor was able to photograph but did not scan for microchip or collar.  ACO later reported that Marcelo did well for handling.

SAFER: EXPERINCED HOME

Marcela came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Marcela came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Marcela was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item she takes bigger bites and eat faster but does not escalates, toy item she displayed no interest and rawhide item she takes away body between the handler and the item. Due to some concerns on food item, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter.

Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.

Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed.

Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek.

Toy: 1. No interest.

Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.

Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Marcela continues to exhibit the same anxious behaviors when interacting with other dogs.

PLAYGROUP BEHAVIOR:   When off leash with other dogs, Marcelo is polite but nervous when interacting. She appears tolerant when interacting with a female and explores the yard.7/1, 7/2 Update:  Marcela continues to be tolerant but not interested in play. She does well with both males and females. 7/3 update:  Marcela greets politely and will circle back around to sniff the other dogs but is more interested in exploring he surroundings. 7/7 update:  Marcela greets appropriately but is more interested in exploring the yard. Tolerant.  7/9 update:  Marcela greets and is interestd in interacting but does not engage in play. She will offer correction. 7/10 update:  Marcela continues to greet appropriately and is social but doesnt engage in play.  7/11 update:  Marcela is a little nervous but does greet appropriately, tolerant, but selective.  7/14 update:  Marcela continues to greet but doesnt engage in play. She will escalate to correction and will become offensive and ignore all corrections from handlers.  7/22 update:  Marcela greets appropriately but does not seem interested in engaging in play. She seems to enjoy interacting with handlers.  7/23 update:  Marcela is a bit stiff but does greet appropriately. Seems more interested in handler interaction. She will interject herself into a conflict with her own escalating correction.  8/4 update:  Marcela is social and greets the other dog politely.  8/6 update:  Marcela is anxious throughout her interaction but will offer correction when mounted.  8/7 update:  Marcela greets politely and is becoming more comfortable but will not interact any further past the initial greeting.  8/8 update:  Marcela will approach respectful dogs to greet but is more interested in seeking human attention.  8/12 update:  Marcela continues to exhibit the same anxious behaviors when interacting with other dogs.  8/13 update:  Marcela greets politely and will approach other dogs to sniff.
