“Even though participants paired with a human partner held their planks, on average, one minute and 20 seconds longer than those with no partner, those paired with one of the software-generated buddies still held out, on average, 33 seconds longer.”
An MSU researcher is looking to give exercise enthusiasts the extra nudge they need during a workout, and her latest research shows that a cyber buddy can help. The study, which appears in the Games for Health Journal, is the first to indicate that although a human partner is still a better motivator during exercise, a software-generated partner also can be effective.

I've got a client and server program. The client uses V4L to grab frames from a webcam, and then send them over UDP to the server. The server puts things back together and writes out the image. Unfortunately, the images the server is creating are gibberish. I currently have it set up for the server to be on 127.0.0.1. I'm not losing any packets. I've got the client writing out an image for comparison, and the client's image is fine. Could anyone shed any light on what I'm doing wrong?
Client: http://pastebin.com/QBarUb3T
Server: http://pastebin.com/KgWDguwY
gcc -Wextra udpClient.c -l:libv4l2.so -o client
gcc -Wextra udpServer.c -o server

Hmm, except of a ton of warnings I cannot find an error without executing it. And executing without your V4L device is pretty pointless.

I recommend splitting your programs into smaller functions that are easier to unit-test and debug. E.g. decouple the V4L code from the socket code, then replace the V4L code with something that just writes increasing integers. Then you can check the server output for patterns with a hex editor.

I think it would be helpful for us to have a version with no V4L dependencies.

This is an interesting break down, complete with lots of graphs.

I like this guy. He talks about defining yourself in terms of what you're doing right now, rather than your past experiences.

This is an interesting post on the size of web pages, and how such things can still matter.
Three years ago, while I was a web developer at YouTube, one of the senior engineers began a rant about the page weight of the video watch page being far too large. The page had ballooned to as high as 1.2MB and dozens of requests. This engineer... | Chris Zacharias | Founder of imgix. YCombinator alum. Ex-YouTuber. Studied New Media at RIT.

Toy cars encourage children to accept the omnipresence of automobiles. Replacing model cars with model bicycles could thus be a first step towards sustainable transportation. Toy bicycles also look great on the desks of adult bike enthusiasts. Scale models of bicycles were very popular in earlier decades, with dozens of companies manufacturing them. Today, they are much harder to find than scale models of cars and motorcycles, but some great mini...

I know this great UDP joke but you might not get it.
