Mr. Haynes is a tax lawyer in Burke, Virginia. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
November 1988 to present: Sole practitioner specializing in civil and criminal tax controversies, estate and tax planning, the tax aspects of bankruptcy, and litigation support in complex civil and criminal cases.
February 1988 to October 1996: Partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm of Bodzin, Haynes & Golub, P.C., specializing in criminal and civil tax cases and other disputes with the IRS, white collar crime matters (money laundering and currency structuring, savings and loan fraud, internal corporate investigations and Ethics in Government Act cases), litigation support in cases requiring complex financial investigations and reconstructions, tax aspects of bankruptcy, IRS collection problems, and general tax and business planning.
June 1981 to February 1988: Attorney in the Tax Department of Finley, Kumble, Wagner, Heine, Underberg, Manley, Myerson & Casey. He was Responsible for civil and criminal cases involving allegations of tax fraud, and other work included tax and estate planning, civil tax litigation, pension plans, and general business matters. He was elected to partnership in the firm in February 1987.
October 1973 to June 1981: Special Agent, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, Baltimore, Maryland. Responsible for planning and conducting investigations of complex criminal tax evasion schemes involving extensive analysis of financial records and reconstruction of the business activities of individuals and corporate entities. Burton Haynes was appointed CID Large Case Coordinator to review audit plans for discovery of corporate slush funds and multi-national kickback schemes, and worked extensively with the United States Attorney's Office on grand jury probe of the Baltimore and Washington locals of the Teamsters Union. Attorney Burton Haynes was named Criminal Investigator of the Year (1980) by the Association of Federal Investigators.
August 1979 to June 1981: Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Towson State University, the University of Maryland at College Park and the University of Maryland Baltimore County teaching accounting, tax law and business administration.
