On December 10, 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), expanding upon the UN Charter's affirmation of the “dignity and worth of the human person.” Article 5 of the UDHR states clearly, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” Thirty-six years later, on December 10, 1984, the UN General Assembly adopted the text of the Convention Against Torture, an international treaty ratified by the U.S. in 1994 that makes participating in torture a crime.

Americans come from many different places and backgrounds, but we share a belief in the dignity of work and a strong desire for a safe place to raise our families. That’s what has always brought new immigrants here, and it’s something to be proud of. #immigration #DREAMact #citizenship #RI4A #faith

All workers, immigrant or native born, deserve safe workplaces that pay fair
wages, respect workers’ rights and treat employees with dignity. #immigration #DREAMact #citizenship #RI4A #faith

The Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC), a coalition of 35 national faith-based
organizations, calls on the 113th Congress to reform of our broken immigration
system. For more than a decade, the IIC has been working with hundreds of
congregations, service providers, and faith leaders across the country to
educate communities, oppose anti-immigrant legislation, and work toward
humane immigration reform. In the past four years alone, the IIC network has
organized more than a thousand prayer vigils, community forums, and rallies
across the country in support of immigrants’ rights.

Families are the foundation of strong communities, but our broken system breaks up thousands of families. Parents and children are torn from each other by deportation, indefinite detention, and a re-entry process that can take decades. We need reform that puts immigrant families back together. #immigration #DREAMact #citizenship #RI4A #faith

We invite you to pray with our various faith traditions & offer your prayer for just & compassionate immigration reform #immigration #faith
