“Republic of Cuba, birth of a nation” features stereographic images of life in Cuba from 1859 to 1902.
A Cuban doctor, who lives and works in Australia and practices 3-D photography as a hobby, found several stereographic images of Cuba shot during the mid-19th century in the Library of Congress. He’s now exhibiting a selection of those images in a Coral Gables gallery in commemoration of the 113th anniversary of the independence of Cuba.

Dubé, Canada’s consul general in Miami, finally spoke publicly Friday, taking the witness stand on behalf of her son Marc, who is accused of participating in the March 30 attempted armed robbery that left his older brother and another teen dead inside a Miami apartment.
In his mother’s eyes, 15-year-old Marc Wabafiyebazu is a sweet shy kid with a learning disability and an attachment to his older brother.

While those who support engagement with the island hailed Cuba’s delisting as a step forward, opponents said that Cuba had done nothing to merit its removal from the list and the Obama administration was making a big mistake.
As of Friday, the United States no longer considered Cuba a state sponsor of terrorism, provoking impassioned reaction on both sides of the issue.
