In spite of a long standing and intense love for martial arts it took me a long time to finally join up. A lot of it had to do with my schedule not allowing it for a time. Even after that wasn't a problem anymore I had to confront the real reason I hadn't joined..Fear. Lets face the facts I was/am a very overweight and out of shape person. I was afraid of what people would think when they saw this fat guy walk on to the mats (in spite of having a few friends already at the academy), and more so than that I was afraid of failing. Fear of failure has stopped me from trying a lot of things over the years ,but thanks to some unlikely sources of inspiration I finally took the plunge. Roughly two and a half months later I now know this is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Though I still have a long way to go I'm in much better shape than my first days when I needed help getting off the mat (ha true story). My teammates are truly fantastic people from all different walks of life, and I could not ask for a better teacher than Warren Stout. Most of all every class I face the possibility of failure, and I'm learning to confront it head on. The truth is on the path to success failure is inevitable. Learning from the failures is what makes the journey worth it. So what's holding you back?
