This is a campaign to make "Right to Clean Air" as one of our fundamental rights in India.
In the first three weeks of January 2014, the average air pollution levels in Delhi was more that of Beijing. The daily peak harmful particulate matter PM 2.5 in Delhi was 473 vs 227 for Beijing.
Air pollution causes diseases like asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer, heart disease etc. According to Global Burden of Disease (GBD) project report, in 2010 air pollution took the lives of 627,000 people in India.
Emissions from vehicular traffic is one of the major reasons along with industries in increasing the pollution levels. Air pollution has an overall impact on our ecosystem as the NO2 emitted from the vehicles combine with atmospheric moisture to form Nitric acid. It causes acid rain and then leads to eutrophication of our waterbodies thereby adversely impacting our aquatic ecosystems.
Air pollution by its impact on the health of people is going to significantly reduce the productivity of organisations and adversely impact the economy. It is time that we demand that "Right to Clean Air" be included as one of our Fundamental Rights so that Government takes urgent action. Please share and raise your voice: http://youtu.be/ioK3Q-ZzuZY
