Yeah read this really great post by the Google + engineer who used to work for Amazon. He pretty much was saying how crazy and brilliant Jeff bezos is and one day stated that all systems to use standard API to communicate with each other system. It was a pain but enforced open networks and comms in all their internal products that became customer facing like EC2 and Amazon Turk while google just doesn't get open. He reference how even gmails Apis are pathetic and google plus started a social network without any way for developers to build utility because it's not just about the network but what you can do with aka Apple App Store, Facebook Apps and Twitter Apps. Hopefully google will get the message :)
