OREGON HOMEOWNERS DON’T BE FOOLED THE STATE NEEDS $$$ SO BAD THEY NEED TO ELIMINATE YOUR MORTGAGE TAX DEDUCTION.
Having lived in several states, and have been victim to the different forms of taxation, Oregon’s cry for help is laughable. Outside of Hawaii, Oregon is the highest income tax state in the country toting 9%+, with some of the highest property taxes I have every paid. The state controls the sale of Marijuana, alcohol, gambling with the highest amount of video poker machines per square mile in the United States, and it’s broke??? Lastly, and most importantly to the form of affordable housing….. they own up to 85% of all land is some counties, like Deschutes. The state of Oregon is the biggest cartel in the United States and somehow its politicians in Salem convince working man in Portland that they have no money after they strip him of his paycheck with addictive habits they fund. Laughable. Shame. Oh yea, second worst schools by test scores in the entire US. Sounds like the “Godfather” move series doesn’t it where mafia moves in and everything goes by the wayside, and then they shake you down for more money. Now they want to use this in the name of “Affordable Housing”. Stating homeowners don’t need the break. Eliminating the federal incentive that has been around for 7 decades? Apparently none of these politicians took Economics in high school. The basic rule of supply and demand applies to land prices when you won’t release land for sale but once every 6 years. Our UGB laws are driving up the cost of housing, it is the number 1 component, yet the state blames the builders??? When a 4000 square foot lot costs $100,000 you can’t build a home for $50,000 to meet affordable housing standards unless the home is less than 300 square feet. What you can do is buy a lot for 25k and build a home for 100k and sell an affordable home for 150k. That is math every builder and buyer can get their arms around. Oregon needs to stop treating land sales like an angry rich child selling grandpa’s estate for maximum dollars when in fact we have the 12th least populated state in the country and land to spare. House speaker Tina Kotek, you’re wrong. Making it more costly and harder to build puts more and more people out of work, and drastically limits the amount of housing that would be built. When you have a housing shortage, you make it easier for everyone, not impossible by creating more regulation, eliminating tax incentives that help drastically in owning the “American Dream”. Playing this out a bit, less people buy homes since the break is gone. Less homes built to meet the demand for housing being a state where people are coming to in droves. Housing shortage drives up prices in basic supply and demand. Nothing to make housing more affordable has resulted, but you would put thousands of sub contractors out of work, creating yet another financial crisis, foreclosure on homes that they own. I guess that is one way to lower the cost of housing but after losing 44% of my houses value in 2007-2010 I think I’m done with that idea. My advice, SPEND LESS, CUT A PROGRAM OR TOO, LESS MONEY TO TOURISM. FIX THE SCHOOLS, CURE ADDICTION. So many more things to focus on.

As expected the Fed didn't move interest rates today. Yellen did say that one increase this year is appropriate and that means we should expect that in December.
