Throwback Thursday: For a short time Boulder had its own ski run. Chautauqua Mesa Ski Area operated from 1949-52 and in 1962.

It had a tow rope powered by the engine of a World War II Dodge army truck, three ski jumps, night lights — and cross-country skiers who said they could beat the tow to the top.

Betty and Peggy introduced my parents to one another in high school.  If not for their matchmaking Don and LaVerne Creese may have never married.

Not everybody or everything makes it to 100, but the University of Colorado Boulder Homecoming is about to reach that centennial mark. On Nov. 7, 1914, CU took on Utah to win 33-0 in the first Homecoming featuring an intercollegiate matchup.

This year, from Oct. 22 to 25, CU-Boulder will host hundreds of guests at dozens of major events. In addition to the traditional football game (use code 2014B2B for discounted tickets) and parade, the celebration will include a concert, an alumni lecture series, affinity reunions and college and school gatherings.

A full description of activities and events as well as event registration can be found on the Back to Boulder website at http://alumni.colorado.edu/backtoboulder.

When actor Christopher Meloni (Hist'83) came to CU-Boulder as an undergraduate student he hoped to “experience America from a different perspective.”

“CU was definitely the first place where I got a chance to really study people, how they interact and react,” he says. “There was a lot of quality people watching.”

Fourteen is a magic number for Forever Buff Kelly Graziadei (Jour’97). It’s the average number of times 135 million Americans check Facebook each day. And as a director of global marketing solutions for Facebook, 14 times a day equals an enormous amount of exposure for her clients, Facebook’s advertisers.

In the digital age, when ads saturate every screen, companies need innovative ways to reach their audiences, and it’s up to Graziadei and her team to help drive their brands through advertising by targeting the most receptive consumers with the strongest message.

Throwback Thursday: Macky Auditorium

On September 20, 1909, ground breaking ceremonies were held for Macky Auditorium. Legal delays halted construction so Macky was not completed until 1922.

Since its completion Macky has been the site of performances including Harry Belafonte, Benny Goodman, Herbie Hancock, Yo Yo Ma, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Penn and Teller, Tori Amos, REM, and many others. Macky has also featured talks by the Dalai Lama, Dr. Jane Goodall, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Forever Buffs - Students, Alumni and Friends
Introduction
The purpose of the Alumni Association is to provide programs and services, which stimulate interest in, build loyalty for, and increase support for the University of Colorado at Boulder among its alumni and alumni-to-be (students). The programs and services offered by the association are supportive of an environment that encourages gender, ethnic and cultural diversity.

In November 2008, the Alumni Association launched its Forever Buffs initiative by discontinuing its membership dues program and welcoming all 240,000 alumni and 30,000 students to a lifetime of services.

Forever Buffs strives to create stronger professional and social networks, develop a culture of giving and service and foster a stronger sense of CU pride.
