there's a lot here to digest, but well worth the read. Many people don't understand the importance of growing your email lists "organically" and how. Also, the list of terms - many small businesses don't know what the word Opt-in means - Nathaniel defines it well.
We always share our client's email on Google+ and make sure it's on their Google+ page too. We do this on Facebook, Twitter and even LinkedIn too. Social sites are a great way to grow the email list. On Facebook you can create a tab that links into a landing page on your site too. Most Email providers like +Constant Contact
have this functionality, but on Google+, I like to add a custom paragraph or two to give a custom intro.
