Range is tucked away in the middle of Valencia, with a deep and spacious interior. The service was good, as expected, and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. My first cocktail was mediocre, so they let me choose another (I didn't ask to have it sent back)! The food was to the point, pure if that makes sense, and I really enjoyed the flavors and combinations the chef put together. Their ingredients were very good, especially the meats like the duck and short ribs.

Came here early and was lucky enough to grab a table not far from the nice looking bar. Shortly after arriving, the place really filled up so plan ahead. Started with cocktails which were decent, though can't say they were my favorite. For appetizer the dungeness crab rolls were quite refreshing. Finally for dinner the roasted chicken was great and the black cod was quite good.

Had a business dinner at Range, and everyone was a fan. For appetizers, we got the asparagus, poached farm egg, and clams. These appetizer portions are small, but we were forewarned. The entrees then blew us all away. I had the halibut with dungeness crab, and it was excellent. I'd have to say that the pork shoulder seemed to win the day though, so next time, I'll need to be sure to give that one a try!

Special night out. They handled a special occasion seamlessly. Range was wonderful, everything was delicious. Service was nice. The restaurant is lovely. COCKTAILS: The Great Pumpkin - 5 stars The Double Date - 4 stars The Smoking Gun - 4 stars There was one more... but it's not online and I can't remember it... red, garnished with a thinly sliced lemon - 5 stars DINNER: Sea Urchin - 5 stars (divine) Roasted Cauliflower and Beet Salad - 5 stars (divine) Oven Roasted Chicken - 4 stars Caramelized Winter Squash - 4 stars DESSERT: Rogue Creamery 'Oregon Blue' cheese plate - 5 stars Butterscotch pudding - 4 stars We had a wonderful experience, we gave the place 5 stars... but I think that our expectations based on Yelp! reviews may have been unfairly high... the food was definitely very good, but not... mind-blowing?

Range is a great example of San Francisco cuisine -- not the best -- but definitely good. The dishes are fresh and delicious, with a (slightly) creative twist on your everyday boring flavors. It wasn't wildly inventive and nothing really blew my mind, but it was all fresh and well-made. ------------------- FOOD: Roasted Chicken = - The dish that everyone talks about does not disappoint. It's your everyday roasted chicken, but incredibly moist and tender. It wasn't that exciting, but it did make me nod my head and mutter: "hmm... that is pretty damn good." Cauliflower Soup = - Well seasoned, but nothing incredible. It was just a good bowl of pureed cauliflower soup. Seared Yellowtail w/ Uni Broth = - The yellowtail could have been a bit less seared to bring out the fresh hamachi flavor, but it did pair pretty nicely with the uni broth. Pea & Mushroom Corn Cakes = - These were actually surprisingly flavorful. Nicely crisped with a good texture. Chesapeake Bay Soft Shell Crab = - Crispy and delicious. Poppyseed Strawberry Shortcake = - The poppyseed flavors definitely shine in this dessert, which was great. It wasn't overly sweet and had a nice fluffiness to the shortcake. -------------------- I'm a bit torn with Range because it was like having boring food, but really good boring food. Nothing was really that exciting, but it was delicious nonetheless. Unfortunately their coffee-rubbed pork shoulder wasn't on the menu that night, so I may have to come back and try that before I really call it "boring".

Birthday dinner. The oil poached fish is one of the most perfectly cooked and best fishes I've ever had. The components of each dish complimented each other so well. Excellent place for a date or celebratory meal.
