There's nothing wrong with being a publicly traded company. It just wasn't for +Cincom Systems. Good luck today, Facebook. #FacebookIPO

There's a lot of talk about public and private companies today with the #FacebookIPO. Do you know why Cincom stayed private? Cincom CEO Tom Nies talks about the advantages here:

I've been so blessed in my life to work with such amazing employees and customers and to have support from my family and friends. I'm honored to have received this award. Thank you

Our CEO, Tom Nies, received the Carl H. Lindner Award for Outstanding Business Achievement in March. We finally received the official video of his acceptance speech from UC (sometimes our incredibly portable flip cam doesn't take incredibly good videos) and wanted to share it with all of you! To all of our Cincomer followers, thank you for helping make Cincom and Tom Nies what they are today. To all of our customers and fans - Thank you for supporting what we do!

Tom is an inspiration to work for. He has left a big and positive mark on The University of Cincinnati (also my alma mater) and every community where Cincom has an office throughout the world.

There is a scenic portrait of Venice directly across from my desk. The scenic beauty, the magic, the history that the picture portrays in the mind is inspirational but not in a way you might think.

This scene of Venice is not to remind me of an enjoyable vacation or as a dream of a place I want to visit. Instead, the scene is a constant reminder to not succumb to the follies to which this grand city fell prey years ago.
Lessons from Venice: How you can avoid letting history repeat itself. | My new column in the Cincinnati Smart Business magazine.

Have you ever heard Winston Churchill's phrase "I am always willing to learn, however I do not always like being taught"? I've noticed that the same can be said in sales cycles - we always want to buy, but we never want to be sold to. Sales must change their mindset. It shouldn't be a "sales cycle," but rather a "buy cycle."

Are you a servant seller?
