Verticon commissioned to lead the construction of Wawayanda Volunteer Fire Company’s New Fire House.

After two years of planning, the transition from a multi-structure facility to two structure site that offers greater functioning is finally underway in Slate Hill, NY.  The Wawayanda Fire Company’s fire house committee has hired Verticon LTD to act as Project Manager for the construction project.  “After speaking with other companies in the area, it was a no brainer on our part to bring in Verticon as Project Manager.”  Brian Peifer, a member of the new fire house committee stated.  He continued “They have good credentials and we really liked their approach.”

The team at Verticon is delighted to take the lead on this privately funded project.  No stranger to work within the Fire Department Community, Verticon was involved in the successful completion of the Florida, Plattekill and Bloomingburg Fire Department facilities. Verticon co-owner Alan Zuckerman noted “It’s been a pleasure to work with Brian and his team in getting the project to this point.  The plan is now underway and we expect to begin work later this year.”

Although the architectural blueprints have not been finalized, the fire company’s plan is to demolish three of the smaller structures on the site, renovate the current 4 bay garage and build a new structure to house the department’s engines, ladder and tanker as well as provide space for meeting rooms and office space.  The enhancements will provide a great deal of value to the community.  The additional space will improve response times because the volunteers will have adequate space to load up the vehicles within the structure.  The modern structure will meet the new safety regulations giving it the ability to be more storm resistant which means it can become a shelter for the community in the event of a storm.  The bathrooms will be upgraded so that they are handicap accessible.  And the plans are being drawn with energy efficient materials.  The new materials coupled with the reduction of actual buildings should save money on utility costs as well.

This week's Featured Project: Crist Brothers Orchard in Walden, NY.
Obstacles we overcame included ensuring that approvals, design and construction were completed and all production and packaging supplies in place BEFORE the beginning of the next year's harvest.
The job was successfully completed and Crist was able to process the harvesting crop while the construction continued in areas not essential during harvest time.
