Dig it!
The saxophone is arguably the musical instrument that made him famous worldwide after its inventor, Adolphe Sax. It begins its first research between 1838 and 1840, probably trying to improve the bass clarinet.
Not to disclose anything about the invention he will file the patent March 21, 1846, is behind a curtain in 1841 it is presented to the jury of the exhibition of the Belgian industry: saxophon (so called early ) was born.
The following year in Paris, he presented his instrument Hector Berlioz who rents his sound in the Journal of Debates of June 12, 1842: "It is of such a nature that I do not know an instrument currently in use that can, in this report, to be compared to him. It's full, soft, vibrant, a tremendous force, and can be mitigated. " With this praise and that of François Antoine Habeneck (conductor of the Paris Opera), Sax is propelled into the Parisian musical world. It was in Paris, where he established a factory of musical instruments in July 1843 it will develop the complete saxophone family: the sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, the bass.

Adolphe Sax is one of the first to oppose the idea that the material plays an important role in the sound of an instrument. It foregrounds the proportions given in the column of air, so the tube (especially the diameter of the bore and its taper rather than the shape of the coil). This fundamental acoustic finding is the basis of its work and success.
