Women of Afghanistan
Afghanistan, land of the patriarchs. Women are sentenced to serve men and do all the tough work. From sunrise to sunset when they wake up married or single, their job is to work harder than the men of the family, refill the water reservoirs at home, co...

This was one of my most exciting and intense moments since I am a "photographer". I was dreaming of taking a night image of one of these unbelievable impressing bristlecone pine trees high up in California's White Mountains. But actually it didn't look that promising. It was overcast all the time and the moon was getting bigger every night and also its setting came pretty close to the sunrise. Nevertheless we went up that endless gravel road to 10.000ft. This night there was only a time frame of about 45 min of darkness between moonset and sunrise. And there was one hour in which the clouds scattered. And yes, both happened at the same time. And not enough of that ... I had choosen this one particular tree in the evening before, because there were no "disturbing" other trees around. And I could only shoot this tree uphill, to get the stars in the frame. And as you can see, the milkyway was located completely at the right position during the few minutes I had the chance to take pictures. After a few minutes of taking pictures the clouds appeared again and I thought I can pack my stuff. But to my surprise these clouds where lightened up by the red glow of the moon which disapperead a few minutes before. So I was reeeeally a lucky guy this night and I appreciate it so much :) ... of course I know this image is not a high-quality photograph. I'm not that experienced with night photography. And I also do not own the best night shooting gear and software. I tried my best in shooting and postprocessing, but I think I could improve the result by spending more time in postprocessing. (The tech: EOS 5DII + EF 17-40/4 L. One exposure at ISO 6400 for the stars and the clouds (because of their movement) and a blend of seven exposures at ISO 12800 for the tree (to reduce the noice - I didn't want to use artificial light) all exposures at f4 of course and 30sec. Would have been better to shoot the tree at ISO 1600 for 4min ...).
