Stage 3 water restrictions.
By City of Duncan Okla
As many of you have heard, the City of Duncan has now entered into Stage Three water restrictions. What this means is that outside water usage will only be permitted on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Midnight until 9:00 a.m. Your address does not matter.
Stage Three is necessary because Lake Humphreys and Lake Fuqua are both at 50% capacity and Waurika Lake is only at 46% capacity. We encourage you all to be active in the City’s efforts to conserve water so that we will have a water supply for future use. The purpose of the water restrictions is not to increase revenues for the City but to help protect our citizens by ensuring we will be able continue to provide safe and clean water in the event drought conditions persist.
It is almost the end of the growing season for many outdoor plants and the weather is slowly putting an end to outdoor water activities. The City will also be posting additional water conservation tips on this page. We encourage you all to share your suggestions as well. Please join our efforts in this so important endeavor of water conservation. The Duncan Police Department and Code Enforcement will be actively enforcing the restrictions beginning October 1, 2013. Violators will be issued a warning followed by a citation and fine. Below is the text from the Mayor’s Proclamation he signed yesterday:
“Pursuant to Ordinance Number 1715 enacted on the 12th Day or March, 2013, Mayor Gene Brown, pursuant to certification of the city engineer proclaims a Stage Three Mandatory Restriction of Outside Water Usage to Wednesday and Saturday. Therefore the City Manager calls upon consumers to follow mandatory restriction of outside water usage including but not limited to watering of lawns, trees, shrubs, gardens and bedding plants, vehicle washing, washing or hosing down of sidewalks, driveways and streets, filling of pools or other recreational uses to the hours between midnight and 9:00 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays only from March 1st thru October 31st and between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays only from November 1st thru February 29th. Said restrictions apply to residential dwellings, business and medical facilities as well as schools and city facilities.”
