I was in a meeting this week where the topic of what "successful job placement in their field" means when students get a liberal arts degree. I wonder what Ted Turner's father felt about his son's college education a few decades after this letter.........

Truly amazing. Even if this was the only benefit of iPads in the classroom, they'd be worth it for these students.

Any unbelievable loss to all the world's stages.....
An extravagantly talented bass-baritone takes an unfortunate early retirement at age 52.

The biggest difference is that there are no private schools in Finland. The focus is equity.
Esther Wojcicki originally shared:

The answers Finland provides seem to run counter to just about everything America's school reformers are trying to do.

For starters, Finland has no standardized tests. The only exception is what's called the National Matriculation Exam, which everyone takes at the end of a voluntary upper-secondary school, roughly the equivalent of American high school.
The Scandinavian country is an education superpower because it values equality more than excellence.

What? Is this for real?

Ever wonder what a tree, or a skateboard, or maybe even your best friend's back would sound like if it could sing? Well, stop. Using nothing more than some state-of-the-art high tech radicalness and a hefty dose of creativity this group of engineers has designed a device that turns any surface into a playable instrument. It's called a MOGEE and we want one now.

I've been lucky - I have a semi-flexible schedule and a hugely supportive spouse but I've watched my sister deal with a more rigid schedule and more travel in her banking world as a working mother. Here's the last paragraph in case you don't make it to the end: "We’ll create a better society in the process, for all women. We may need to put a woman in the White House before we are able to change the conditions of the women working at Walmart. But when we do, we will stop talking about whether women can have it all. We will properly focus on how we can help all Americans have healthy, happy, productive lives, valuing the people they love as much as the success they seek." It's worth the time to read!

Well here's an interesting idea.......
Are you being held down by mounting student loan interest? If you are the city of Niagara Falls, N.Y. might be willing to pay down your student loan debt, all you have to do is live in the city. Niaga...
