After leaving Drake University with a BA in 1966, I received an MS in advertising from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, and have bled orange and blue ever since ("Illinois by birth, Illini by grace of God"). I then served as an administrative and information officer in the Air Force, all in SAC. After leaving the service as a captain, I worked in marketing, communications and general management in the consumer electronics (Matsushita/Quasar Company, Electronic Industries Association, American Electronics Association); office products (A.B. Dick Company, Oce'-Industries) and sporting goods (Brunswick, Riddell) industries, in both the corporate and nonprofit worlds.
In 1988 I was selected to represent the consumer electronics industry as chief international spokesperson in Washington, D.C., then returned home to the Chicago area to senior positions in various nonprofits and, ultimately, semi-retirement, although I'm always looking for interesting consulting projects under the Lexes Unlimited banner, a consultancy I created in 1978.
I have two offspring, Kirk, 36, and Kristin, 21, and live with my bride (well, two years ago) Daunice in Elgin, Illinois. Recently we moved to a 55+ community.
All things considered, it's been a pretty good run. I've lived in seven states plus D.C., traveled a good part of the world, been quoted in everything from the Wall Street Journal to Nippon Keizai Shimbun, represented the most exciting industry in the world and even got my ugly mug on TV more than a few times.
