Edit: Fake Ammon Bundy Twitter account telling us all what they really think.

"We are doing the same thing as Rosa Parks did. We are standing up against bad laws which dehumanize us and destroy our freedom." - (not) Ammon Bundy

Remember that one time when Rosa Parks and her friends loaded onto a bus with their rifles and promised armed resistance if necessary? Yeah, me neither.

The depth of Ammon Bundy's delusion is breathtaking. This armed mob's occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge has nothing to do with a civil rights violation. These people are not oppressed or discriminated against. They are not subject to acts of violence.

This is yet another privileged group with a persecution complex acting out because their privilege is being whittled away. When they say they want their land returned to them, what they really mean is that they want to use the resources on federal land without having to pay for it. Their ultimate goal is to be able to hunt, graze their cattle, mine and harvest timber while being held accountable to no one. Conservation and environmental protection be damned.

Their occupation has little to nothing to do with the Hammond father and son being convicted of arson for lighting fires on federal land. That was just an excuse to start this little PR stunt.

I don't say this often, but Rand Paul is right. You cannot  call yourself a conservative if you're for unlimited military spending.

We already spend more than the next ten nations combined. If America is not safe with that kind of spending, the problem is with our interference in foreign affairs and foreign occupation, not the budget.

This nation wastes a breathtaking amount of money through our privatization of the military and prisons. If there is profit to be made in war and imprisonment, which for the record I am morally opposed to, that profit should be returned to the American taxpayers. Instead it goes to contractors through no-bid contracts. The kicker is that the services they provide are lower quality and cost more money.

It is baffling how many so called "conservatives" want to cut spending on food stamps, healthcare, and education all in the name of reigning in wasteful government spending while writing blank checks for other budget items.

Mass shootings happen so frequently in the United States that +The Onion has a (not so) fake news template  for mass shootings.

Why does sharing to G+ have to be so difficult?

I know all about the benefits of writing posts tailored to the platform. I know unlimited frictionless sharing is a nuisance. While nobody wants app requests and Spotify plays in their G+ stream, wouldn't it be nice if we could share posts from other platforms automatically?

Why do I have to manually copy and paste a link to a photo when I can share them automatically to just about any other social network in existence with +IFTTT? (Note: The Instagram app no longer has a Google+ share option, which makes mobile sharing an even bigger pain.)

Why after four years does +Google+ still not have a public write API? Why are services with access to the private write API (Hootsuite and Buffer) still limited to posting only to pages?

Rant complete.

What makes fireflies glow? Jewel Staite, obviously.
What makes fireflies glow?

About 60 years ago, scientists figured out in broad strokes the cascade of reactions that allows fireflies to produce light. It starts with a chemical called luciferin, which interacts with the energy-transporting molecule adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. The product of that reaction then combines with oxygen, and this in turn releases light. Intermediate steps, however, have not been fully fleshed out. Bruce R. Branchini and colleagues wanted to explore potential mechanisms.

The researchers experimented with the enzyme luciferase, which boosts the initial reaction between luciferin and ATP, under varying conditions. In contrast to the commonly accepted model, the resulting data suggest that the transfer of a single electron to oxygen occurs during one of the final steps to spur light production. Other studies of bioluminescence have pointed to the same mechanism, raising the possibility that it could be a unifying feature of the natural phenomenon.
