I revisited the Buena Vista for the first time in probably 15 years on a cold SF night. Had a hot Irish Coffee to warm me up. It tasted so good I was thinking,"Why have I been away for so long?" Great view, great bar, historic building, a real mix of a crowd...everything I like. So, I came back with my wife for an early Sunday breakfast. What a perfect morning- eggs, toast, bacon and an Irish Coffee with an enjoyable view of the water. I'm taking all my visitors here from now on. But, arrive on the early side to get seated right away.

The original Irish Coffee! Can it really be beat? I mean obviously, the Buena Vista isn't where you go for food. You go for the irish coffee and for the fun of being at an SF institution. That said, I always have a good time here. The staff is incredibly nice - last time I was here I had injured my foot and the waitress brought me a bag of ice and paper towels and everything. Couldn't have been nicer! But really... irish coffees.

Huge tourist spot that is famous for it's Irish Coffee and trust me, these guys have the method down. The bartender was making 10-15 Irish Coffees at a time and handing them out like the Red Bull girls on the street! Jameson is the preferred whiskey and they are not stingy with it at all. Definitely a place to go check out, but due to the large tourist population, it is consistently packed wall to wall.

I take all of my visitors here! It's really fun and the irish coffee is amazing. The staff is very friendly and efficient. It's definitely a touristy spot, but for good reason! You may have to wait for a table to open up, but people are usually willing to share their table if they have open seats available.

Surprising to me there were many families with kids present the day. I went to have an Irish coffee, as I was told they are the best there. My friend invited me and we found a table all the way in the last corner. Which might have been the problem with the long wait for a server? But it mattered not! The Irish coffee as I was told I found out was true is fantastic.

The Irish Coffee is like none other - literally! Old school vibe in the best way, the food is hot, good, and comes with no pretense. Great mix of locals and tourists, if you've never had one of their famous Irish Coffees and your in SF - then you have to go to The Buena Vista!

Should have read the review that said this is not the place where you go for food...! I can't quite grasp the idea that many of the high ratings for this diner are based on just an Irish Coffee. So please, if you've read this far and you're not into coffee, avoid this place. The food is just terrible!

Great Irish coffees & good food!! Watching the bartenders shell out 20+ Irish Coffees is so entertaining and the wait-staff is made up of fun people. One waitress I loved, she was hilarious and told me if I stirred my Irish Coffee again she was going to smack me...great friendly (and to the point) people work there. I stop in every time I'm in SF at least a few times a visit and each time it's great.
