SDS/2 2017 has a new solution for Concrete, which allows users to add in rebar, continuous footings, CMU walls, automated connections from beams to concrete walls, and more.

The second of three webinars on concrete will be broadcast on Sep. 6, 2017, and will teach you how to set up concrete member templates, embed plates, angles, and channels, as well as rebar placement and bending schedules.

This week's #ThrowbackThursday feature is the Willis Tower (formerly the Sear's Tower). This skyscraper dominates the Chicago skyline, and is constructed of several structures bolted together on site by larger steel beams and supports. This added strength gives it the ability to stand against the strong winds of Lake Michigan.

The John Jay College of Criminal Justice expansion in Manhattan is this week's feature for #FuturisticFriday. In response to a shallow Amtrak tunnel that cuts through a corner of the site, the John Jay structural system is distinguished by a grid of rooftop trusses which hang the perimeter of eight floors below. When the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883, it was the first steel suspension bridge ever built and the longest suspension bridge the world had ever seen. Today, the bridge carries over 120,000 cars and 4,000 pedestrians from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Read up on this feat of engineering at the link below.
