Today the Ontario Court of Appeal released reasons in R. v. Summers, the result of which is that enhanced credit for pretrial custody of 1.5 to 1 should become much more readily available. This recognizes that those detained prior to being found guilty don't get the benefit of early parole for their time served. A rare defence friendly decision from our Court of Appeal these days.
