Published in the New England Journal of Medicine by the scientist at Yale University last Wednesday investigated cases of breast cancer between 2001 and 2013.

The scientist discovered that instead of an early detection of cancer, repetitive cancer tests may be picking up on cancers that when not be given immediate actions it won’t pose much of a risk.

For over a decade, it was been long proven that small breast cancer have a better healing process or recovery. ”Donald Lannin, who led the study shared, “We always assumed that it was because we were catching the small cancers early and then that’s why the cure rate was much better.”

Lannin discussed that scientist at present agrees that some cancer grows slow while some grow fast.

It needs 15 to 20 years inorder for small tumors to start a problem. And you can analyzed that many patients might die not due to cancer but something else within the span of 15 to 20 years.

So when a patient might die earlier than 15 years old or other less invasive causes within the said decades, would simply mean that invasive cancer therapy such as chemotherapy and radiation would be futile and expensive.

Sitting on the sofa is bad for your health, it adds to an increased risk of kidney and bladder cancer, a new study revealed.

Poor recreational activity was linked with a 73 percent higher risk of bladder cancer and kidney cancer increased risk as high as 77 percent.

The findings made the past proven evidences stronger that less or zero inactivity is a significant predisposing factor for cancer, the researchers explained.

Kirsten Moysich, the study senior author and professor of oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo said, "We hope that findings like ours will motivate inactive people to engage in some form of physical activity."

Moysich further added, that running miles after miles is not needed just to reduce cancer risk, a little of something would be enough such as walking around your area a couple of times on your coffee break or lunch hour, taking the stairs instead of elevator, talking a dog out for his daily walk or parking your car bit away from the store when you go for your weekly grocery.

The study involves 160 Kidney cancer patients and 208 patients with bladder cancer and 766 non cancer people. Cancer risks were true to obese or non obese, said the researcher.

The study was tailored to trace the association of a desk-bound lifestyle and risks to cancers; it can hardly prove the cause and effect relationship.

Rikki Cannioto, an assistant professor of oncology at Roswell Park shared two significant points:
"Our findings underscore how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including getting and staying active.”
"The Department of Health and Human Services recommends 150 minutes each week of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes each week of vigorous physical activity as a way to generate significant, lasting health benefits.”

The study was printed just recently in the journal Cancer Epidemiology.

Researchers from Rutgers School of Public Health, Rutgers New Jersey Cancer Institute and Roswell Park Cancer Institute invaded into 4,285 women's homes in New Jersey and New York to handle an interviews, get some blood samples and measurements.

They discovered that those women who are into hair products such as hair dyes, hair treatment, hair relaxers have a greater risk for breast cancer.

Dr. Adana Llanos, the study's lead author said, "And we found that the associations differed by race.”

One phenomenal finding was on the side of African-American women, those darker hair dyes like brown and black have 51 percent greater chances for breast cancer.

Researchers also discovered that those African-American women who were fond of dark hair dyes have 72 percent increased risk for a particular kind of breast cancer which is the estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.

Those that uses chemical relaxers or straighteners found to have 74 percent increased risk for breast cancer such as the Caucasian women.

Nonetheless, Dr. Llanos warned that the findings were not enough to prove that the said hair products are factors for breast cancer.

Dr Llanos reiterated, “I probably wouldn’t go as far to say you should never dye your hair again, but I would just say be mindful and look at the ingredients maybe do a little more research.”

Rutgers researchers are heading to next level of their study. They will investigate as to which specific chemicals or brand products that may contribute to an increase risk of breast cancer.

Breast cancer drug that can extend lives approved for NHS use

A drug that can prolong the lives of women with end stage breast cancer has passed the standards of NHS.

In clinical test, Kadcyla, which cost £90,000 a year per patient, was found to save lives of those in terminal stage, specifically those who were given six months to live. It even can help improve the present condition, the quality of life in contrast to the other remedies and even found to lower its negative effects.

Kadycla is formulated for patients diagnosed with Her2+ breast cancer that has metastasized to other vital organs and in which surgery no longer works.

Kadycla is sometimes called T-DM1, this is blended with Herceptin, a powerful chemotherapy agent. It functions by connecting to the Her2 receptor on cancer cells, obstructing signals that enhances a cancer to develop and spread. The chemotherapy property also penetrated inside the cell thus killing the cells from within.

Kadcyla is given once in every three weeks through intravenous infusion.
The chief executive of NHS England, Simon Stevens explained significant points :
“NHS cancer survival rates are now at record highs, and this year we’re going to be making major upgrades to modern radiotherapy treatments in every part of England.”

“NHS England is also taking practical action to drive greater value from taxpayers’ growing investment in modern drug treatments, and that work is beginning to bear fruit.”

“In this case, tough negotiation and flexibility between the NHS and Roche means both patients and taxpayers are getting a good deal.”

Richard Erwin, general manager at Roche shared, “This is a positive example of how solutions can be reached when all parties show flexibility.”

Delyth Morgan, chief executive of the research charity Breast Cancer Now, said: “We are absolutely delighted that tough negotiation and flexibility by Nice and NHS England, and the willingness of Roche to compromise on price, have ensured that thousands of women with incurable breast cancer will be given precious time to live.”

The specifics of the price agreed between Roche and the NHS are not being divulged yet.

Regardless of this scary fact, still lesser men check their balls for cancer, Keep yourself safe, you need to know the following:

What is testicular cancer?

Testicular cancer’s hallmark is the presence of a lump or a swollen testicles, the male sex organ responsible for sperm and testosterone production.

Usually testicle tumour likely to hit men aged 15-49 than those above 50
In the UK, approximately 2,200 men turns positive on testicular cancer annually.

This corresponds to the one percent of all male cancer, eventhough cases of testicular cancer increases by times two since the mid-70s.

There are various kinds of testicular cancer:
Germ cell cancer: 95% of cases, happens in the sperm – production cells
Lymphoma: 4% of cases, cancer invading the lymph nodes.
Leydig cell tumours: 1-3% of cases, occurs in the testosterone- production cells
Sertoli cell tumours: 1% of cases which occur in the sperm-production cells

What are the manifestations of testicular cancer?
. The most common sign is the swelling of one of your testicles which is as big as the pea.
. Having testicular lump doesn’t mean it’s cancerous, only four percent of scrotal lumps ends up to cancer but it is a must to see and have it evaluated by the specialist.
Other symptoms of testicular cancer are:
. Excruciating pain in the areas of testicles and scrotum or sometimes a dull ache.
. Feeling of heaviness in the scrotum.
. Increasing firmness of the testicle and texture changes
. A difference between the two testicles

What causes testicular cancer?
Testicular cancer has no definite causes and it can be triggered by the following factors:
. Undescended testicles: The baby is born with a undescended testicles and this is normal but t age of 1 it is expected that testicles should descend and if failed then there is a big tendency for the baby to develop testicular cancer.
. Family history: If the father positive on testicular cancer, you’re four times chances to have it also.
Previous testicular cancer: Survivors of testicular cancer have four times chances for its recurrence affecting other testicle.
. Ethnicity: White men have a greater risk of developing testicular cancer compared to other ethnic groups.

Back pain is often mistaken as a sign of breast cancer. Back pain isn’t the trademark symptom of breast cancer. It is more of having the manifestations such as changes in color of the skin in the breast area or changes in the shape of the nipple and presence of some lumps and discharges.

The pain around the breast area and radiating to the back is a symptom of breast cancer that already metastasized in other parts of the body.

If a cancer spreads out, it invaded the bones and destroys it. Pain around the back is a signal that the tumor is giving pressure on the spinal cord.

It’s good to remember that a back pain can be due to common illnesses such as disk issues, muscle strains or arthritis. If pain is no longer manageable and manifesting other breast cancer symptoms or other members of the family has a breast cancer, it is a must to see a your doctor.

The study discovered that a combination of chemotherapy plus the cannabinoids, the active chemical component in cannabis works more effective than chemotherapy only.

The results of the study recommends a low dose of chemotherapy, decreasing the negative effects of the treatment, stressed by the researchers.

Additionally, scientists found the procedure on how it was given was dangerous, giving cannabinoids following chemotherapy kills huge number of blood cancer cells.

Dr Wai Liu, from St George's, University of London, the chair of the study said, “We have shown for the first time that the order in which cannabinoids and chemotherapy are used is crucial in determining the overall effectiveness of this treatment.”

The previous week, it was exposed the famous singer Olivia Newton- John will utilize cannabis oil and other natural alternatives after her second round of breast cancer diagnosis.

According to Chloe Lattanzi, her daughter and a Grease star 68, they opted for alternative medicines in addition to the modern drugs and treatment. The therapeutic value of cannabis has been an argument for years and there has been a lot of testimony given that they were cured solely by using it.

Dr Wai Liu stated, “Cannabinoids are a very exciting prospect in oncology.”

A form of cancer which is rare and affecting only men is the Penile Cancer. The cancer hits the area around the skin of the penis or inside the penis.

John Osborne can’t believed that he is having such kind of disease when a doctor diagnosed him previous year.

Osborne told the The Independent, “I wasn’t even aware penile cancer existed and I don’t think I am unusual in that. It was something I’d never heard of, come across or known anybody to have it.”

The cancer invaded 600 men and above in UK annually, and nearly 70 percent positives stretches life for over 10 years.

Symptoms varies, some starts with just a simple sore on the penis which doesn’t heal over a month. Discharges or bleeding from the penis is present. There is thickening of the skin , change of color and some rashes on the penis.

The first manifestation Osborne noticed was a small mark on the base of the glans of the penis. For about 2 months, he kept coming back and forth to his specialist. He was treated with hydrocortisone creams which he claimed to be less effective.

He confessed, “I didn’t think I had cancer. At any time during this process, I have never felt unwell. It’s what they do to you that makes you feel unwell.”

After seeking a referral from dermatologist and urologist with the assistance of private medical insurance, Osborne was lucky to be diagnosed early of Penile Cancer. The urologist said he would not be surprised if was diagnosed late due to its uncommonness kind of cancer.

Osborn added, “Immediately he started talking about forms of treatment including surgery and reconstruction and at that point I just said, ‘Please stop, I can’t deal with this’. It was a real shock.”

Osborne was referred to a specialist of penile cancer. He had undergone three operations, the cancerous cells were taken out and submitted for biopsy, experts named it as “circumcision plus.” This operation was followed with another 2 more operations after the surgeon noticed that the cancer is becoming so active, aggressive and spread fast.

The lymph nodes were evaluated also to check if cancer have metastasized. Fortunately it did not but lymphedema in scrotum and legs were noticeable which up to date remained uncured.
John was declared cancer free in June, 2016 and no longer required to undergo a full penectomy in which to some cases total penectomy is the sole treatment.

John, from Warwick, was given the all-clear in June, 2016 and did not have to have a full penectomy (total removal of the penis) which for some with the disease is the only treatment.

Scientist made another phenomenal milestone in advanced ovarian cancer.
Out of 15 women who were given newly discovered drug in a trial sponsored by ONX-0801, 7 discovered having a shrunk tumours.

The test measures if the treatment is effective and safe. But the result turns out very impressive, researchers jumps quick to the next level of the research.
The drug, formulated by the UK’s Institute for Cancer Research, invades the tumour’s DNA by imitating folic acid in which ovarian cancer cells are known to bear huge number of receptors.

Dr Udai Banerji of ICR stressed, “This is a completely new mechanism and should add upward of six months to patients’ lives with minimal side-effects in extremely late-phase ovarian cancer. This is much more than anything achieved in the last 10 years.”

DR Banerji explain the possibility in using the drug in early stage where it gives a big chance for survival.

There are more than 7,000 women positive with ovarian cancer annually in UK. The yearly death toll is more than 4,000.

Marianne Health, 68 was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011. The cancer spread fast that it affected already her stomach and back.

Last September, a 68-year-old woman started the 12 weeks series treatment of ONX-0801. Chemotherapy no longer effective to her. During the treatment, it was found out that all her tumours withered and can be considered now to have controlled the disease.

She said happily, “I’m delighted. I had next-to-no side effects. I just want to keep going so I can keep the tumours at a level where I can enjoy my life.”
