Companies urged to take part in pioneering health programme Durham Smart County

Innovative organisations are being urged to take part in a pioneering initiative to tackle the major health issues associated with social isolation in the North East.

Companies are being invited to apply for funding as part of Durham Smart County, the open innovation programme which has seen Durham County Council join forces with health organisations, universities, community groups, and private companies.

Initially £100,000 is being made available to companies to develop and scale up concepts and the deadline is 31st March.

EU consortium to assist photonics companies including CPI

The EPRISE project, ‘Empowering Photonics through Regional Innovation Strategies in Europe’, brings together nine photonics innovation clusters and national photonics platforms from around Europe. The project aims to support companies who use photonics to enter four market sectors: medical technologies; pharmaceuticals; agriculture; and food.

Tech leaders Filtronic power back into the black as half year sales top £21.6m

County Durham technology firm Filtronic, who have a base here at NETPark raced back into the black after a strong six months of trading.

Highlights including the wireless division ramping up its antenna business to meet all delivery obligations.

The designer and manufacturer of microwave electronics products for wireless and broadband markets has posted revenue of £21.6m for the six months ended November 30 - a huge jump on the £4.5m recorded this time last year.
