I finally got pillowy soft kolaches by putting sour cream in the dough.  If you need a good recipe, try this one and let me know what you think!

It's Pie Season  Despite not having an oven right now, I was able to make a very good chocolate cream pie with a no-bake crust.

Visited on a Friday night with my 11 year old daughter. We were treated like royalty even though there were lots of large groups nearby. The atmosphere is relaxing -- upscale yet casual, with a positive vibe. The filet mignon was on par with the best I've had and we enjoyed trying all the sauces. For sides, we had perfectly cooked asparagus and big, fat, juicy onion rings. The popovers served at the beginning of the meal were also phenomenal, and I'm generally not a fan of popovers. They were an interesting start to an excellent meal.

Dr. Becher's office is such a positive environment that my daughter actually looks forward to her orthodontist appointments. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient, and Dr. Becher herself is about everything you'd want in a doctor -- caring, but frank and honest. She also has a fun sense of humor and relates well with kids and adults.

I've eaten pizza all over the world and have standards. Let me just say that here in Austin, Home Slice is at the top of the list! The decor isn't fancy, but I gave it a three because once you settle into the very casual environs its very comfortable, there's not pressure to eat and run, and the place has a laid back Austin vibe. The wait is a pain the neck, but they do let you put your name on the list and then run around for a while, so that's a plus, as is the cheap but very good house wine!

Great place for a pre-concert dinner. Terrific service, lively atmosphere, and a menu with lots of interesting small items.

I am not a fish eater, but Uchi is one of our family's favorite restaurants. The vibe is always upbeat, energetic and fun and the servers pay attention to every detail. As for the food, despite not eating fish I always find a myriad of things to choose from since there are plenty of interesting vegetarian, chicken and beef options available. The last we went, we sat at the sushi bar and left things in the chef's hands. He prepared a special veggie roll just for me, which was kind of fun. The only thing I don't like about Uchi is having to wait for a table, but we've solved that problem by going during the week and eating late.
