Indique is an upscale Indian Restaurant serving modern Indian cuisine. Since opening in 2002, Indique, coined by the marriage of India and Unique, has strived to redefine Indian dining in the district. A fixture in the historic Cleveland Park neighborhood, the restaurant sits in a beautiful two-story space filled with bold colors, rich fabric, and white marble railings. True to its mantra of Unique Indian Flavors, the diverse kitchen features modern twists on classical fare from the North and South, an array of small plates, street snacks, regional dishes, variety of seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Indique offers a full bar, signature cocktails like the Tamarind Margarita and Kokum Martini and wines carefully selected by the glass to go with your meal.

The service was 5 stars worth. The why did I give only 3 stars? Because the food wasn't great. Paneer makhani wasn't good. Had to try hard to finish it. Chicken curry was just about average. Nan too was average. When I was waiting for the food, I saw the cook making Nan's live. Not sure if it just a show. If they can elevate the taste a little bit, then they could end up being the best Indian restaurant in DC

Excellent food of the subcontinent... nice balance of spice and flavor (lamb biryani)... very nice room and atmosphere... well-priced for quality and portion... limited but nice wine list (try the Indian chenin blanc)... unrushed service... welcoming environment... consistent for many years and worth a visit to the Cleveland Park area of DC.

I'm never sure how I feel about Indian food. Do I like it? Dislike it? Does it make my sensitive stomach hurt? Do I want it more than I want, say, Thai, which I love? Indian food has always been sort of a mystery to me. BUT OH, INDIQUE. Indique changes everything. Indique is divine. Smooth & satisfying mango lassis, impeccably mixed cocktails, flavorful dips & chutneys & spreads... Their Shrimp Varuval, jumbo shrimp cooked with onions, tomatoes, & spices, is hands-down the best shrimp I've ever had. And I love the Chicken Tikka Makhani (marinated boneless pieces of chicken cooked in tandoor & finished with a thick tomato sauce), & the rice that comes with their entrees is cooked to perfection, surprising leaps & bounds above all other rice (which seems like such a weird thing to say). I've never had anything else there, but I've also never dined there with anyone who was anything less than thrilled with their meal. The atmosphere is lovely, though it alternates between very quiet when it's empty & very loud when it starts to fill up. They also have a great patio that overlooks Connecticut, perfect for a sunny day or a sunsetting evening. Bottom line, I love Indique & would go back much, much more frequently if I were able to afford it.

Delicious, excellent quality and management through the years. Frankly, I find this restaurant virtue more important than how good a restaurant is when new. Try the Baingan Bhartha. Its very yummy. It is as hot/spicy as you like. So ask for it. The restaurant consists of two floors. There is a distinct bar area on the first floor. Tables can be collected for large parties.

Updating my review after a recent visit. Chickpeas and lentils were again standout. Chicken tikka masala is creamy and flavorful. Lamb is equally tasty. Service is slow but courteous. Decent for the neighborhood, not a destination.

I have been here several times and always enjoy it. Decor is very nice specially if you sit upstairs. A nice touch in appetizers that combine local favorites like crabcakes and add the Indian food touch to it. Location is great, right next to Cleveland Park Metro on the Red Line.
