My husband and I had a hard time finding a wedding photographer. We kept falling in love with photographers who were already booked, or who found us “overwhelming”. We finally found Tobin and he was almost too good to be true. From the first emails/phone calls he ‘got’ us. We’re quirky and low key - but also energetically nerdy, and Tobin was always professional, never thrown off by our strange requests. The day we actually met Tobin was our wedding day – we were planning a Massachusetts wedding from Washington DC and Tobin was accommodating and optimistic that there would be no kinks. We were worried it was professional bravado, but he was true to his word. I asked Tobin to arrive at 10am on our wedding day to get pictures of me/the bridesmaids getting ready and he arrived at 9:55 and was taking pictures by 9:56. To this day my bridesmaids still giggle and remember how “your photographer just blended right in, it was like he’s been friends with us for ages”. He got right to work and I didn’t feel like I had to “manage” him whatsoever. He had a list of my important shots that I really wanted him to capture, and he started knocking those out right away. Tobin also helped keep me on time by reminding me where I needed to be at various parts of the day. He was never bossy, always supportive and it made a big difference in keeping me calm and organized on my wedding day. Tobin also has a bit of mad scientist in him. My husband and I were up-front that if he had an idea for a cool picture, he should go for it, we both knew that no amount of staring at pintrest would be as good as giving a professional photographer free reign. So Tobin kept on surprising us. He pulled us out during dinner (only after making sure we were cool with it) and snapped a picture of us in the snow, by a lake, at sunset. It involved a crazy hike through the woods, in the freezing cold- however the picture is STUNNING and the whole process took maybe an extra 15 minutes away from our wedding. We now have that picture framed and hanging over our fireplace and it’s something I cherish looking at every single day, and I have a hunch it’s something I’ll enjoy for the rest of my life. It took about 7 weeks to receive our pictures (perfectly reasonable) and they were worth the wait. We also ordered an album and some prints to hang on the wall. The prints arrived rapidly, but the album and CD book with our images took a few extra weeks to make it to us (If I remember correctly it was about 4-5 months but that seemed like a standard timeline for the photography industry). Honestly I didn’t mind, every time I emailed Tobin to make sure we weren’t forgotten he was quick to respond and reassure us. Tobin captured the tone of my wedding perfectly. We had a puppet theme and we wanted our pictures to be whimsical and fun. Tobin captured the serious moments but also made sure no one looked posed (we were terrified of stiff staged pictures) – he captured us laughing and looking lovingly at each other. He listened when we explained what aspects of our relationship were important and he went above and beyond in capturing that. The pictures were reflections of us, but they were also beautiful. My husband and I are not models, we’re goofy looking people and we were afraid we would feel silly looking at professional photos of ourselves, but Tobin captured the best parts of us. I would not hesitate to book him again and would recommend him to a friend in a heartbeat.
