2014 Herdade do Mouchão Alentejo Dom Rafael Branco - Portugal, Alentejano, Alentejo (VineNaughties' rating: 88 points)

TASTING NOTE

A Mouchao Sunday first wine is bright, vibrant and inviting green/yellow on the eye.

We would have to be on the other side of the planet to miss this exciting beacon of lemon.

Bouquet of lemon, candy green apple and toasty petrol. Somewhat mellowed fruity acidity.

A blend of Antão Vaz, Arinto, Perrum and Fernão Pires...we know very little of these varietals, including how to pronounce them properly :-). Learning does not suck!

Dry, teeny shoulders, waist and ankles with fairly intense lemon, candy green apples, pineapple and jackfruit.

Exceedingly easy sipping wine best served cool, but not cold, as the aromas benefit from some warmth. Finish is shorter than, well, short.

Fun, stunning QPR to begin your day when a bubble is not of interest and you feel - as we often do - a white must be followed by a red ;-)

2010 Didier Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé Silex - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé (VineNaughties' rating: 96 points)

TASTING NOTE

We truly adore this wine!

"We decided to sip one of the only acceptable Sauvignon Blancs on the planet…not just acceptable, but exceptional. The 2010 Didier Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé Silex does not even require assistance from our good friend Semilion.

It presents with a greenish/yellowish eye with a nose of lightly toasted oak derived from a “blend” of new and old French oak barrels and a touch of citrus, floral notes.

A creamy texture, rather than typical Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc acidity, rich and wonderful mineral flavours combined with just enough exotic fruits. A somewhat sour and long finish.

The two signature wines, Silex and Pur Sang (yet to try) rank amongst the great white wines of the world, most definitely compared to the usual Sauvignon Blanc.

This wine demonstrates the finesse of available, but rarely seen, in a Sauvignon Blanc.

Silex means “flint” in French, which is predominately found in the soil from where the wine hails. Serve a bit warmer (say, 17% degrees celsius) so the nose is more pronounced.

The grape fruitiness became a tad too pronounced after two hours of sipping.

We believe this wine will lay down for 5 to 20 years in the bottle.

Stunning!!!

2006 Duval-Leroy Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (VineNaughties' rating: 92 points)

TASTING NOTE

Many thanks to PSPATRICK, whose glowing description of this bubble inspired us to pop open a bottle for lunch today. We served in white Bordeaux glasses after debating away using big-bowl Chardonnay glasses. Flutes, which are for orchestras and over-bubbly bubbles, were never even considered!

Yellow-gold with hints of green apple slivers on the eye. Bubbles non-existent, which is the way we like our bubbles aka wine. Stunning Chardonnay!!!

Bouquet of green apples, lemon, lime, toasty-oak and a feint touch of vanilla. The sort of vivacious perfume you expect from a confident, young lady seeking to impress, but not overwhelm, her equally male and female audience. Genius!

Palate green apple, vanilla-cream, croissant, soft mousse, silky. Dainty shoulders, petite waist, stand-fast ankles. From top to bottom, she is a fine blend of just enough bass and not too much treble.

A winner sipping well now...will continue to evolve, we think, in terms of the toasty yeast we are seeking. See you next year, dahlin'!
