Still remember the day I wondered if I had a shot with this photo challenge. Humbled to be selected as a finalist. Head to FB to check out the photos. Mine is under @sonofstrong

Bayes for the win
This is sooooo cool. The actual statistical methods they are using are pretty crude, but that’s fine. What’s important is their focus on the important goal. It’s sort of like Bill James or Nate Silver: if you’re using good information, and you’re focused on good questions, then the fancy statistics can come later (or from others). In most educational efforts I know of (including my own), very little is done to target assessments to improvements f...

Flipboard for my desktop browser would be nice!

Flipboard hires Web innovator, new Android and HTML versions of Flipboard on the way?

Remember the interview I did about a year ago with +Filipe Fortes?

He's a web innovator and built something that looked like Flipboard -- all in HTML 5.

Well, he started working at Flipboard yesterday, he told me today.

Now this is interesting.

I expect Flipboard to start moving toward non iPad versions, but not before the end of the year (they still are finishing off an iPhone version of Flipboard). Why?

Insiders at Flipboard tell me they expect Amazon to sell a crapload of their Kindle Fire tablets, which will force companies, like Flipboard, to take Android tablets seriously.

One way to get apps onto Android is to base most of the display technology on HTML5. That's what Flipboard competitor Feedly has already done and here you can hear Filipe talk about what he can get HTML 5 to do (and he shows me a stunning demo. Remember, this is a year old!)

It's going to be interesting to see where Flipboard goes now that Filipe is on board.

"P.S. Statisticians are special because, deep in our bones, we know about uncertainty. Economists know about incentives, physicists know about reality, movers can fit big things in the elevator on the first try, evolutionary psychologists know how to get their names in the newspaper, lawyers know you should never never never talk to the cops, and statisticians know about uncertainty. Of that, I’m sure." http://andrewgelman.com/2011/07/one_of_the_easi/
