"Illinois was ranked as third most-corrupt state in the country, following New York and Los Angeles."  (#FacePalm)  (+NBC Chicago helpfully provided the Source link, to ensure they receive credit for their gaffes.)

Source: http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Report-Names-Chicago-Corruption-Capital-of-America---Again-305343521.html#ixzz3bTPE55lF
Chicago has maintained its first-place status, but not for something the city should be proud of.

I really enjoyed this thought-provoking article from the NYT.
What kind of adventures produce goodness, rather than build résumés?

We're in Cologne visiting with friends.  Last night on the way to dinner, we walked by a felt store and saw this.  Is it just me, or are the yellow felt stars of David grossly inappropriate?

You should write them and tell them how you 'felt' about it.

The ISS crew of Expedition 42 embraces its inner Douglas Adams fan and poses for a spoof crew photo.  Awesome!

Brilliant! Re-attach a button to your shirt in seconds, with no needle, and no thread.  Beautifully elegant.
Tic is an elegant way to permanently fasten shirt buttons. It´s simple and durable and it fits all regular shirt buttons.

It would have taken one hell of a quake to wake up Thomas Jefferson in 1915, considering he'd been dead about 90 years by then...

A quote by earthquake "expert" Paul Stoddard of Northern Illinois University:

“100 years ago or so, we had huge earthquakes in one winter that rang church bells in Boston, woke up Thomas Jefferson, you’ve heard all the stories. That really provides the biggest risk is a major earthquake in the New Madrid but it’s not something to lose sleep over. Generally earthquake risks in this part of the world are minimal. You might feel one but even if you felt one, it wouldn’t be large enough to do any damage but it’s always nice to be prepared just in case.”
What regions of the U.S. are at risk for a major earthquake? WBBM's Lisa Fielding talked to an earthquake expert about fault lines and risks here in America.

Surprise! Chicago PD in the news again.  This time for allegedly operating the domestic equivalent of a CIA "black site."  The Guardian's article appears to be a bit over-hyped, but are we supposed to take CPD at its word?

Working in the Sears (Willis) Tower is cool all year around, but the week of the airshow is my favorite time to be here.
