GDG Cagayan de Oro and Women Techmakers Cagayan de Oro celebrated International Women's Day on March 29, 2015. We had a total of 40 attendees (31 females and 9 males). Around 63 participants registered.

The event started with an opening remarks from GDG Cagayan de Oro Lead, Josan Astrid Dometita. She shared what inspired her to become a Codesigner (coder/designer). We also played some videos from the WTM resources. We had two (2) guest speakers who talked about how they are changing the world.

One of our guest speakers is Engr. Aisa Mijeno, the co-founder and CEO of SALt (Sustainable Alternative Lighting). She invented a cost effective ecologically designed lamp powered by tap water and rock salt. She got inspired from one of her trips to one of the northern mountains in the Philippines and saw that a lot of people from the tribe living there needed to walk for 8 hours just to buy kerosene to fuel their night lamps. We all know that this is really hazardous. Engr Aisa and her team invented a lamp that will not only provide light source but also charge any phone or smartphone. She says that this is not just a product, it's a social movement. This will greatly help the people living in areas where there is no electricity and help during the times when there are calamities.

Our second guest speaker is Ms. Shayryl Ramos, the President of Robogals Cagayan de Oro and one of the members of the Tech and Development team of Robogals Global. She shared the updates of their team who teaches young girls ages (9-15) about science, technology, and engineering. They conduct workshops on Coding and Robotics. Robogals originated in Australia and has been expanding globally. They are the first chapter in the Philippines and one of the few chapters in Asia.

For our networking session, the Robogals conducted a group activity that we all enjoyed.

We got great feedback from the participants and they wanted to have more events like these in our city.
