"One aspect of this road which we can claim is especially unique is that it provides for motorists a wonderful 'glass elevator' some 400 stories tall...Behind their windshields motorists will drop down from an elevation of 4,000 feet, and mountain coolness, to the dry, warm floor of the desert. On their trip down they will view one of nature's great panoramas that extends on most days to the distant Salton Sea." -James S. Copley at the dedication of the Montezuma Road, 1964 http://ow.ly/uXfk30dBPcp Picture courtesy of the Borrego Sun.

Anyone into the "desert-headtrip psych-folk sound" of John Meeks? His new video for "Blood Moon" features Borrego Springs as a backdrop and SoundDiego calls it, "a little creepy and...a whole lotta awesome." http://ow.ly/5emz30dBLpL Photo courtesy of http://www.nbcsandiego.com/.

"Font’s Point is best viewed at sunset,” says San Diego Magazine contributor, Scott Murphy. “It’s so peaceful. Locals bring chairs. Some even picnic.” Photo courtesy of San Diego Magazine. http://ow.ly/jgxG30cmUxY

Built in 1949, the architecturally important Desert Club was gifted to the University of California Irvine in 2011. Outfitted for research, the newly minted Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center is now part of UC's network of natural areas throughout California that support university-level teaching, research, and public service. Researchers from around the world use the facility to pursue the Natural Reserve System's mission: to contribute to the understanding and wise management of the Earth. http://ow.ly/Iwa130cmYke Photo courtesy of the Borrego Springs Chamber of Commerce.

We join the @AnzaBorregoFoundation in welcoming their new Executive Director, Sara Husby. Ms. Husby previously worked with Tuleyome, a non-profit that led a campaign to protect the Berryessa Snow Mountain area. She brings with her a passion for the preservation of open space and protection of public lands. We look forward to seeing how she engages the mission of the ABF: to protect and preserve the natural landscapes, wildlife habitat, and cultural heritage of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park for the benefit of present and future generations. http://ow.ly/BGxD30bMQwQ

A recent blogpost on Ernie's Outdoors reminded us that even as the glory of the Super Bloom fades, we have the pristine viewings of the Milky Way to look forward to later this spring and into summer. #lookup http://ow.ly/NL5630ayXlZ

Good news travels far. The London Free Press recently weighed in on the Super Bloom and highlighted one of the lesser reported aftereffects: caterpillars. Lots and lots of caterpillars. And with the caterpillars, an explosion of Swainson's hawks. Hawk counters tallied nearly twice the number of previous years. http://ow.ly/ARwx30azimZ
