If anyone is having trouble downloading the podcasts from an iPhone / iPad just do a soft reset (hold the home and lock buttons down for 10 seconds).  The latest iOS software upgrade created a bit of a hiccup but the reset will fix it! :)

Tomales Bay State Park ~ Point Reyes California
During a recent trip to the San Francisco area, I was tasked with setting up a short hike and landscape photo shoot with some friends.  I love planning things like this but usually it’s based around a location or site I have been to before or know a lot about.  We’d be staying at a c...

Vulnerability is the Heart of Our Culture
What am I going to say that will be interesting to thousands of people!? IF they read it, will they think I’m crazy!?"

This is what through my mind about 100 times before I wrote this article.

The feeling was identical to what I experienced during my very own first critique session (with the amazing Robin Griggs Wood). I was a little overwhelmed and nervous about sharing my work with the world. Opening myself up to critique. I knew it would lead to improvement but I feared the process. I powered through it and was rewarded with several insights about my own imagination, creativity and what I should practice in order to improve along my learning path. Being vulnerable, putting myself out there, created new opportunities for growth.

After my critique, I felt like I passed through a gate. Being vulnerable was the key to that gate. The key to one more step along my learning path. Without the opportunity to be vulnerable, I don’t know if I could have progressed on my learning path. This goodness happens when every Member of The Arcanum nurtures and protects our culture of vulnerability and service. When we do this together, we enjoy an environment in which it is safe to be vulnerable. We share openly with an expectation of receiving courteous and constructive critique, absent of ridicule and rejection.

P.S. If you’re interested in learning more about how important vulnerability is to the creative process, check out the TED Talk by Brene Brown on the Power of Vulnerability.

It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome to meet and shoot with all of you on Friday.  I know I talked to a lot of you about +Trey Ratcliff's  Master Apprentice style online learning community called The Arcanum.  For those of you that I didn't get a chance to talk to and are curious please reach out, I'd love to tell you all about it. They don't pay me to recruit people, I just love it so much that I want more people to have the same magical experience I have.  It has changed photography, passion and life 200%!  I have been an Apprentice for a year now and I have loved every minute of it.

You can learn more and apply right here:  http://www.thearcanum.com/
