Irish-accented grub by the pub's roaring fire, with fine New American fare on the restaurant side.- Google

My friends and I have been going here for about two years now. Hands down best food you will find late night, and if you are there for dinner, they have the best shepherds pie in town ;) no seriously, this place is the best. The staff is *incredibly friendly and hospitable. Check out this place during one of Boston's famous blizzards if you live in JP. They have a fireplace, get a hot toddy <3

Best moderately priced foodie pub I've experienced in JP, which doesn't say a while lot, but its definitely above average. Try the sirloin and nachos. The curry sauce they have for the fries is pretty niffty and different. If you can get a table you'll enjoy it more on the pub side.

James's Gate is the best of both worlds, providing a winter haven with its roaring fireplace and lively Irish band performances, and a large patio for sunning yourself when the weather's nice (try the sangria!). The nacho plate here is enormous, and the sandwiches are solid bets. Come for the beer selection, stay because it's so darn cozy.

James' Gate is such a great little pub. I am a huge fan of places like this, with a mix of seating, good pint selection, and a strong menu. I am a HUGE fan of their chips and curry, which is a common dish at Irish pubs. JP has lots of bars, but this is one of the greats. It can get crowded on weekends, so get there early--but also don't miss brunch!

Good beer, quiet atmosphere. Not a bad bar for meeting friends over a pint.

Ate on the pub side on a winter night with my wife and kids. The place has the feel and looks of a pub on the old sod. It was warm and cozy, because of the glowing fire. And the food was fantastic. There was spinach with my son's steak that was unbelievably good. My bangers and mash plate was unbelievable, and my wife's veggie quesadilla was spectacular. And my daughters baked mac and cheese was pronounced the best she'd ever had. What a great, great place. And absurdly cheap for what you get on top of all that.
