The long awaited Xfce 4.12 has been released, enjoy :)
Xfce 4.12 is be the best release ever (yes, we like to party!)! Source : Internet comments. Today, after 2 years and 10 months of work, we are pleased to announce the release of the Xfce desktop 4.12, a new stable version that supersedes Xfce 4.10. This long period can only be explained by how ...

i switched to arch some time ago but stuck with the more familiar gnome 3 when i did. i regret that.  xfce is far more usable and intuitive. gnome was actually starting to cut into my productivity with it's unusability.

Alright, so Eric and me have been trying to finalize work on the xfwm4 ochosi/tabwin branch and I think we're pretty much there. We're mostly doing a small review and then I hope this can get merged into #xfce  4.12.

New features:
 * option to show as listview
 * style properties (e.g. to tweak classic and listview-appicon-sizes)
 * mouse-click support (should also help with touchscreens)
 * some visual improvements (optional transparency, window roundness etc)
 * option in xfwm4-tweaks to enable the listview (see screenshot)

If you wanna try it head over to http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/log/?h=ochosi/tabwin

Feedback is highly appreciated!

For #Xubuntu  users there's a PPA for 13.10 and 14.04 to test:
https://launchpad.net/~unit193/+archive/xfce

Just a note to the screenshots: the blue highlight is the mouse-hover style, the black selection is the keyboard-selection. If you just hover with the mouse without clicking anything, the selected item will remain/be the keyboard-selection.
If you wanna try this style, you can get it here: https://github.com/shimmerproject/Greybird/tree/ochosi/tabwin

Recently the +Xubuntu team announced that they are conducting tests using Mir and XMir to help them decide if they make or not a switch from the Xserver.
What are your thoughts?

How did you get to known Xfce? Did you installed it yourself or did you buy a computer with it preinstalled from a vendor such our friends at +ALUSA?

I've read about it and then I've installed it in My PC, I've removed KDE and now I use a customized-Xfce, with my themes, panels and other items. I installed for the first time it on my Debian stable.

Google not only leads the way in technology but also in green energy use!

Ever wondered what the Internet looks like?

If the new  photos of Google’s data centres are anything to go by, it’s surprisingly beautiful. Even better, Google is leading the way in using clean, renewable energy to power its data centers - in stark contrast to companies like Amazon and Microsoft: http://goo.gl/w4bX6

Did you ever heard of X.org EVoC? It is a alternative to #GSoC , consider applying to #EVoC , we need better open-source drivers
The X.Org Endless Vacation of Code (EVoC). For the last several years, X.Org was a participating mentoring organization in Google's most excellent Summer of Code (GSoC) program. This program provi...

Debian Switches to Xfce!
Debian, the foundation upon which many Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, are based, is to switch to Xfce as its default desktop environment.

While you're waiting for Xfce 4.12, now it's a good time to sign the #EFF petition if you haven't done already, let's end the software patents shall we?

Thanks +Tim R. I guess you meant to point me here http://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.12/roadmap#roadmapplanned_features but I was looking for a promotional type of hype page with screenshots to get people interested to see the work gone into 4.12

Isn't this an awesome idea? If all websites implemented this, the INTERNET would be a better place! Oh and btw they also sell computers with xfce ;)

This week we are going to declare the use of any Internet Explorer version as unsupported and we will redirect users of IE to a page that explains the situation and that also offers a solution for those that still use this legacy browser.
