Confirming that the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) amounts to "a huge transfer of power from people to big business," Greenpeace Netherlands on Monday leaked 248 secret pages of the controversial trade deal between the U.S. and EU, exposing how environmental regulations, climate protections, and consumer rights are being "bartered away behind closed doors."

More corrupt police in the USA
American police are out of control.
This is is known as "civil asset forfeiture". It comes from a relatively obscure corner of the law that allows authorities to seize cash and property from people they suspect of a crime. In most states, and under federal law, authorities get to keep the proceeds regardless of whether the person is ever convicted, or even charged, with criminal wrongdoing.
No room for corruption there, then. Pfffrrr.

How Oklahoma police took $53,000 from a Burmese Christian band, a church in Omaha and an orphanage in Thailand

Disturbing trend.
A Texas man who is a refugee from Burma was carrying the cash in his car when he was stopped by Oklahoma police. They took the money, under a "civil forfeiture" law.

I'm sure there are many, many good ones who are equally appalled by their bad colleagues but there do seem to be a lot of bad ones bubbling up to the surface now and when they are bad they are shockingly bad, it seems

"...from the natural goodness of nature's potato, the Potato".
Huh? Like getting liquid from natures rain, the Rain, or warmth from nature's sun, the Sun?
Anyone surprised this product didn't catch on?

Australia on Thursday marked the 20th anniversary of a mass shooting which led to strict gun controls that have in turn led to a huge decline in gun murders, undermining claims in the United States that such curbs are not the answer.

Amend the Constitution then. The path to what you want is already laid out but all you do is complain.

An Australian MP has set fire to a river in Queensland in an attempt to draw attention to the effects of local fracking, which he claims is causing methane gas to seep into the water. Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham posted a video on his official Facebook page, where he can be seen using a firelighter to set the Condamine River on alight. The water can be seen to set alight quickly, causing Mr Buckingham to recoil and exclaim: “A river on fire...

Bloody hell, Prince is dead.
I was waiting for him to rearrange dates for Glasgow. Damn.
My daughter saw him 2 years ago, my sister too, and said he was exceptional live. He was certainly very talented, played so many instruments, and, in recent years, he made sure his concerts were cheap. The one my daughter went to was very, very long, with full band and cost about £65, the two my sister went to in London cost £10 each and were in intimate venues.
I am surprisingly saddened by his death, not weepy or anything but definitely rather sad. I don't get too sad over celebrity deaths, normally. I suppose it is selfishness, really, I am sad because I hoped to see him live and now won't.
To me he is a much greater loss than Bowie or M. Jackson. A vastly more skilled musician (could play so many instruments and play each exceedingly well), made his concerts accessible in terms of price and had much more to offer in future.

He was an absolute genius! Played every instrument, wrote n produced all his own music. When he was chosen to play at the Tribute for George Harrison, all the great icons that were playing on that stage that night, n Dhani George's son, had Prince do the solo to "While my guitar gently weeps"! It is an amazing moment n everybody is in awe of him. Its just effortless. He didn't get enough credit for his guitar playing except from other guitarist, they knew! I know all over the news etc their talking about Purple Rain , Little Red Corvette, although Dove's Cry is a beautiful song, his Catalog is so IMMENSELY HUGE! Most people have no idea how talented he really was! He was able to lead a pretty good secluded life up there in Minnesota. I will need some time to recover from this bombshell! R.I.P. ....Prince

This just WRONG... As of May, researchers that received grants from the government – which covers a broad range of topics, and a vast number of academic institutions – will not be allowed to use the results of their research to lobby politicians for change.

Science is, by its very nature, objective. It uses data, backed up by demonstrable, empirical evidence, to try and explain as much of life, the universe, and everything as possible.

That's silly then why do research in the first place.
